Sure there are dishes that have been created here, its just hard to think of which ones. Many people have listed things already: hot dogs (ummm Germany has over 600 different types of sausages, we didnt invent the hot dog or sausage), or Spam (ever heard of minced meat, same thing different recipe), macaroni and cheese (Käsespätzle, cheese with pasta a southern german specialty), BBQ (Char Sui, very popular in Korea, and also can find many other examples of earlier BBQ than here in the US). But nobody has mentioned Cobb Salad. Sure we didnt come up with the salad, but this is an original salad recipe not based on any others that was created in the US. Its tough question, but you can find correct answers if you dig deep enough and long enough.

Corn, Navajo fry-bread? America is a transfer of home countries. That is why we see such oddities as Cajuns (Canadian French in Louisiana) using okra (From Africa) in Gumbo. That is American. Otherwise, you are looking towards the Native American influence which will quickly draw you south to central America. You know, come to think of it; Maine Lobster only comes from one place (you guessed it).

Unfortunately when I think of true American food what comes to mind is the hamburger and macaroni & cheese. We don't seem to have invented the most creative of foods. However American chefs know how to use foods from all over the world to make wonderful dishes that have an American flair. Oh, well I did forget that lobster as we know it is an American delicacy. Other lobsters from other countries just don't taste the same as ours.

no not really . see America is "called mixing pot" it is called this b/c many people have immigrated from diff heritages with diff cooking styles and when they moved here the diff cultures/ heritages clashed together to make a new one . so there really is no true American food . we just perfected it lol

well if this dosent help my guess would be any type of fast food chain cuz i think thats about as good as true "American" food gets
