Problem with a threat to my mom.?

My wife's family lives in a refugee rich neighborhood. They were threatened by the neighbor, who said they will be sending the kids out to beat up her mom, and dad. Dad is almost 80, Mom is in her 60's.

Is it worth reporting to the cops?

Definitely. While it usually doesn't really amount to any real action against the neighbors, it establishes a report with law enforcement in the area where they live. If the police taking the report can find enough reason to believe that there is a credible threat it may be enough for a judge to be able to issue a restraining order against those making the threat and usually for free. This shows to the court that should anything even close to happen the neighbors were in the wrong and knew it.

If a restraining order was able to be issued it is automatic grounds for arrest if the neighbors set foot on their property, let alone if they did anything else. As for real security for them, I would suggest stronger locks, security doors, a big dog or even pepper spray, a baseball bat or a gun. A restraining order will not keep them from doing something and neither will making a report, but it will keep them in check if it's all bark and no bite. But please worry about their actual safety as well instead of just thinking a piece of court paper or a telephone is going to save them when it counts.

Absolutely! Also you should find some form of protection for your parents- like an alert necklace where they push the button and it connects them to 911, a stun gun (if legal where they live), some pepper spray, anything. Get a restraining order against these people, too. If nothing else the police will have a record of the threat on file if something does happen. It may seem like I'm over-reacting, and I probably am, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Yes. Whether the cops will do anything is questionable, although they could get a restraining order. This is probably a good idea as well, since the cops will certainly respond to a violation of a restraining order.

Yes. Just incase something happens then the cops know who to look for, also the cops might have a little talk with the neighbors so they know this is America and we don't treat our elders like that and if they want to stay in America then they need to follow America's laws.

Threat is a crime punishable under the Penal Laws. File a complaint against the people threatening your family so that they will be arrested.
