  • I need movie suggestions?

My favorite movies have heroes that are good guys (not pot heads). I loved the Die Hard series, I loved the humor in Lethal Weapon, I like the adventure type movies like Indiana Jones, Lara Croft, etc. I don't like stupid, unrealistic monsters or aliens or vampires, and I am not in the mood for a love story unless it's funny. Have they stopped making decent movies entirely?

  • When did the Guy, AR earthquake swarm stop?

I normally watch the USGS website pretty closely, but I didn't even notice that the swarm stopped until the recent earthquakes. It has obviously been at least a week, and I know they were still happening a couple of weeks ago, but...I wonder what caused them to finally stop. The swarm lasted over a year. Does anyone know if swarms of that length are rare or typical?

  • Missed a meeting, she cut my hours! What should I do?

I am a waitress. I found out Wednesday that I had a 2:00 mandatory meeting at work on Saturday. I also found out Wednesday that my ex-husband and babysitter would not be available to watch our 1 year old daughter Saturday until my normal work time (10-6). I told 3 of the managers about my dilemma on Wednesday. I informed them that I would continue to look for a babysitter and let them know if I would be able to make it, or that I might have to bring my daughter to the meeting. I was told by other employees that the manager's daughter and other employees bring their children to meetings all the time, so I was not too concerned. On Saturday I still had not found a babysitter. It was snowing and hailing, and it is a thirty minute walk to my work (the bus takes an hour because it is two buses that are timed poorly). Two hours before the meeting I called the manager and told her about the situation. She yelled at me, saying that I had a week to prepare and that if I didn't show up she would write me up, and that if I brought my daughter to the meeting she would write me up. Since the consequence was the same either way, I chose not to risk my child's health taking her her out in freezing hail. It was, after all, the first hour of work that I had missed in the 3 1/2 months that I have worked there, and besides, the meeting are geared towards the silly children that work there that have to be told to wash their hands before touching the lemons and to check back on their tables and provide good customer service. I'm a grownup, and understand that my tips depend on me having common sense.

When I got to work last night, I found out that she had taken two scheduled work days away from me and berated me in the meeting in front of all of my coworkers for the second meeting in a row. She thinks that I am a bad server because I occassionally get complaints- from people who are trying to get free food. However, my tips consistently average 20%, which I believe says alot about my customer service skills.

I believe that I am treated differently than the people who are friends with her on facebook, and there were other people who took their kids to the meeting that did not get written up or lose hours. They were also not publicly berated.

I don't want to quit my job- I want to find a way to relate with her without being friends with her on facebook because I am looking for a more professional career eventually and I believe that would harm my reputation and chances. It is very unprofessional. I can't afford this drama, and truly believe that I'm a little too old for it. What should I do?

  • Help me explain to my son? (sort of long, sorry)?

My son is 17, his fiance is 19, and their baby is due this month. They were living on their own and I was busy with my own new baby, divorce, and foreclosure. I moved into a tiny two bedroom apartment with my older son, who was helping me with the bills, and my ten year old and the baby. Then my ex moved back in, my seventeen year old and his fiancee moved in, and suddenly I have 7 people living in this tiny apartment. Let me preface the problems by saying that I adore his fiance and do not want in any way to hurt her or make her homeless just because of my problems or my son. The problems: 1) My son is not working, but his 8 months pregnant fiancee is working 2 jobs and contributing $200 a month to the household. 2) My son does not help with housework or clean up after himself and his friends except on rare occasions. 3) My son thinks he should, and is entitled to, enjoy his life until the baby is born, and allow his fiancee and I to handle all of the responsibilities until then. 4) My son and his fiancee are sharing a room with my other two boys and complaining about space. 5) He wants me to get rid of my cat because he is afraid of toxoplasmosis even though his fiancee never touches the litter box. 6) He yells at his fiancee for working too much, but doesn't realize that she wouldn't have to if he would just get a job and help her out.

Because he is only 17, I do feel obligated to take care of him to an extent, but financial and space constraints make this extremely challenging, and his attitude towards the situation makes it even worse. He decided to be a grownup and make a baby, but that seems to be as grown up as he plans on being.

How do I explain to him that he is asking too much of me and of his fiancee? (And his brothers and baby sister.)

  • 3 men, 3 huge shopping dilemmas, 4 if you count being broke?

My husband and two adult sons are always hard to shop for, but this year I am especially at a loss because of financial and time constraints. They mean the world to me, and I would love to find the perfect gift for them. The problem is, I don't know what it is. One of them has a baby on the way, all three of them are unemployed and having a hard time finding work (if I could get them jobs for Christmas I would) and one of them was my rock last year during a very difficult time. Any ideas? I only have about a hundred dollars to spend.

  • Oil Spill question? Is there a way to cool the gases and neutralize the pressure?

"Geologists often refer to the temperature range in which oil forms as an "oil window"[16]—below the minimum temperature oil remains trapped in the form of kerogen, and above the maximum temperature the oil is converted to natural gas through the process of thermal cracking. Sometimes, oil which is formed at extreme depths may migrate and become trapped at much shallower depths than where it was formed. The Athabasca Oil Sands is one example of this." -Wikipedia

Scientists: Is there a way to cool the temperature at the leak and neutralize the pressure of the gases at the source so that the top fill method would have a chance to work?

  • Will hurricanes bring oil inland and deposit it on roofs etc., creating health and fire hazards?

Why is this being called a "potential" disaster? Isn't it already a disaster? Can hurricanes coat the gulf coast in oil? With hurricane season starting this week (I think?) shouldn't we be preparing for that possibility, instead of worrying about who to blame? BP already acknowledged that it's their mess- what can be done to help mitigate the damage and potential damage if my theory about hurricanes is correct?

  • Artist publicity stunt?

What do you think would happen to an artists sales if, as a living artist, he legally changed his name to "the late (name withheld)" as a publicity stunt? Since artwork is more valuable after the artist is dead, I think it would be a good publicity stunt. He would, of course, not pretend to be dead- that would be deceitful.

  • My divorce was final this afternoon?

I regret the decision, but I don't think I was wrong to do it, if that makes sense. We have 2 kids together, plus two that we raised together from toddlers, and another on the way and due in January. I filed for divorce because I had given him an ultimatum regarding drinking and driving, which he did not follow through on. He subsequently got into a DUI accident, learned his lesson and has cut way back on the alcohol (and can't drive anymore by court order). Other reasons that I filed included: his temper when he was drinking, suspected infidelity, and constant arguing- again, mostly when he was drunk.

Now that he has quit drinking (or at least getting drunk) I feel like he is the person that I fell in love with 18 and a half years ago. I still adore him, and I cried when the judge asked if the marriage was "irretrievably broken," and haven't stopped crying since. I think that is because I believe that it could be fixed. He is living with another woman that he is attracted to, but he says that he has his own room there, and that it is a financial arrangement. I don't know if I believe that or not, but I need to sort out my own emotions before I go around second-guessing his.

I don't want to try to get him back for the wrong reasons. I don't want it to be because I am pregnant, or because 18 years is a long time, and I've gotten used to having him around. I don't want it to be because it's Christmas time, or because neither of us wants to tell the kids. There were things that he did during our marriage that were disrespectful, and maybe unforgivable -but maybe not. I just don't know what to think. I don't want to let him hurt me again, but I do love him, and I kind of feel like I gave up too soon.

    Any thoughts?

  • My dishwasher beeps during the dry cycle?

For like an hour! It's a GE Profile Performance. How do I shut the stupid thing up so I can think? I have to use the heated dry.

(If anyone says something stupid like "shut it off" I am going to get annoyed. I want to disable the alarm, not work around it.)

  • Divorcing a cheater and want to know...?

We have been married for 18 years, but last year I discovered that he was cheating with my "friend." He lied about it until recently, and apparently told her that we were no longer sleeping together, because when I became pregnant, he loudly protested that I must have been cheating! Me- Working full-time and going to school full time, and spending what little time remained trying to fix our broken marriage and taking care of our kids (all while he was drinking and carousing). I did not cheat and the baby is his.

The other day I invited him over to discuss the parenting plan that we need to agree on in order to make the divorce go faster- otherwise it won't be final until the middle of next year. We also discussed reconciliation, because I think we should wait until the kids are older, and because I do still love him in spite of my anger. I hoped that we could work on things, but he said he has already made commitments to someone else and doesn't want to break her heart. He also said that he still loves me, and doesn't want to break my heart either, and that I am better in bed than she is, and he needs to think about it. Then we slept together for the first time in 3 months, and it was incredible as usual.

The next day, he went right back to "I have to think about her feelings." How could her feelings possibly be more valuable than mine and his childrens'? What is the matter with that moron? He thinks I should share custody of the daughter he denied with him and that slut! Is he nuts? Our older children shouldn't be exposed to this mess either, right? He even asked for paternity testing, and when it comes back that he is the father, she is going to realize that he lied, so what is his plan for that?

  • Should I do a separate parenting plan for the baby?

We are divorcing without attorneys, and need advice. The baby is due in January, and will require different visitation time with her father than the other kids. She will be exclusively breastfed. The divorce will be final in December if we agree on plans, but his child support obligation for the baby won't start until she is born, I think. I am confused about how to calculate child support and parenting time for her separately from her brothers without a separate parenting plan. Any advice? We live in Colorado.

  • Am I under any legal or moral obligation to refrain from removing my husbands artwork?

I got a restraining order against him which was made permanent by the courts, so he will not be coming back to this house to live, ever. I also filed for divorce. I understand that I am legally restrained from transferring or encumbering his property by removing it from the house until we have further court orders regarding property separation. However, he is an artist, and the walls of the house are covered with his artwork, which I do not particularly like. The peices are big and fragile, and he has made it clear that he does not want me to move them. I do not want to break them or mar them in any way; I respect that his artwork is meaningful to him. But I don't like it, and I want to redecorate my house. I have had to live with his "decorations" for 18 years, and I am ready to move on. I just want to put it in the garage, where the rest of his property is (carefully boxed and respectfully labeled). I am not vindictive; I just want to move on. Should I move it or leave it there until property is divided? (He can't come get it because of the restraining order.)

  • Will my husbands huge DUI debt affect the amount of child support he has to pay?

I filed for divorce in August, we have 3 kids, and my ex got a DUI yesterday. I guess he hit two cars, and totaled his 350Z, but I'm afraid that those expenses will count as bills that he is responsible for and reduce his child support amount. We live in Colorado.
