Insurance follows vehicles, not people. So if your friend is driving your vehicle, your insurance is primary. If he has your permission and he's at fault the liability coverage will be used under your policy. The collision coverage always applies.

You are insuring the car as well as all covered drivers. A covered driver is a licensed driver operating the vehicle with your permission. If your friend has an accident with a car that you insure. The insurance company will pay for damages..but your insurance premiums will probably go up and that friend may be added to your policy as a driver. You wont be able to remove the charge on your insurance (or the driver) unless you can prove that your friend has his own auto insurance. You can also prove that he does not regularly drive your car .... but thats more difficult.

  • A little of both. If he is an occasional driver, than he is insured. If he a regular operator - the claim can be denied.

Basically, thinkg about it. You have a driver who has several accidents and violation vs a driver with no accidents violations driving the same car - the first driver will have higher rates.
