If you want to use your Yahoo! Avatar, go to your Yahoo! Answers profile (click My Q&A or your nickname to get to your profile), click Edit My Info, on the page that opens tick Use my Yahoo! Avatar, go to the bottom of the page and click Preview, on the next page that opens click Ok.
You can also click this link to get to your Edit My Profile page and then follow the above directions. http://answers.yahoo.com/my/my_edit
If you don't have a Yahoo! Avatar, click the link below and create an avatar and then follow the directions above. To learn how to create and use a Yahoo! Avatar, click How to Use Avatars at the top right of the page.
If you want to use a picture instead of your Yahoo! Avatar, you could use a picture found on a website, or use your personal photo. The picture must be in the JPEG format (JPEG files usually end with ".jpeg" or ".jpg" or ".jpe."), each image must be smaller than 5MB. If you want to use one found on a website, right click on it, and on the pop-up menu click Save Picture As, and save it to My Pictures or wherever you want to save it, or use one you already have saved, or scan one to your computer.
If the picture you want to use is not jpeg, jpg or jpe, save it anyway, click the picture to open it. right click the picture and click Edit and it will take you to Paint, click File, click Save As, click the down arrow where it says Save as type and select JPEG, click Save.
Once you have a picture saved that you want to use, go to your Yahoo! 360°, go to My Page on your Yahoo! 360° and click Edit Personal Photos, click Browse and browse My Pictures (or wherever you have it saved) and find the picture and click on it and it will be sent to your Yahoo! 360°, click Save. Go to My Page on your Yahoo! 360° and click Edit Personal Photos, on the page that opens click Set as primary and click Save.
If you don't have a Yahoo! 360°, click Get my Yahoo! 360° account now! on your Yahoo! Answers Edit My Info page, and open a Yahoo! 360°, or click here. http://360.yahoo.com/
Now go to Yahoo! Answers and your Yahoo! Answers profile (click My Q&A or your nickname to get to your profile), click Edit My Info, on the page that opens tick Use my Yahoo! 360 Picture, click Preview, and on the next page that opens click OK.
You can also click this link to get to your Edit My Profile page and then follow the above directions. http://answers.yahoo.com/my/my_edit

How to change your picture in the little box thingy next to your screen name:
1. Go to Yahoo! Answers.
2. Click on your image.
3. Click on 'Edit My Info' (it's in blue letters under your image).
4. Scroll down to 'Pictures' section.
5. Click on the 'Edit my Yahoo! avatar' (in blue letters, below last frame).
It should be easy to create your avatar, everything is intuitive. Just be sure to brush your hair before you save your work and exit. (yellow 'Save Changes' button)
6. Return to 'Edit My Profile' page (click the 'X' for close in the upper right corner).
7. Check the '[O]Use my Yahoo! avatar' (below your new avatar).
While you are at this point, scroll down to the 'About me' section and tell us something about you (or make something up). This will be displayed at the top of your Q & A page.
8. Scroll down to and click the blue 'Preview' button.
9. Scroll down to and click the blue 'OK' button.

Go up to Messenger on your taskbar for Yahoo Messenger. Click on "My Display Image." There you can select a picture to display or create an avatar. Click "OK" and it should reset your image next to your screenname.
