Having set-up and guided the island Nation to Communism our government was angry that it wasn't set up as per our liking. Yes there is the Missile Crises to take into consideration however we had missiles in the back yard of the USSR. Part of the agreement to end the missile crisis was that we would remove missiles from Turkey and the USSR would halt and remove missiles from Cuba. Those days are long over and it is high time that relations with Cuba be renewed. We have renewed relations with China and Vietnam and they offer a more dangerous concern to us than does Cuba.

remember that castro got missile supplies from the former USSR that are believed to be capable of carrying nukes and able to reach almost all the states of US, this lead to the naval blockade and the critical thirteen days decision-making of JFK...surely he is a threat back then, it all starts when castro led the coup' that overthrows the legitimate government, seized all the businesses put up by the americans and call them national assets, certainly this angered US that led to a very long and futile sanctions and embargoes. castro is the last of the longest serving socialist leader that continuosly proved to the world that US can't always get what it wants.

Oh, they were definitely a threat at one time (see 'Cuban Missile Crisis' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuban_Missile_Crisis)... However, he's not really a threat to the US today. His country is a great reminder of how bad Communism is and how dangerous people like Hugo Chavez are to freedom and democracy. This is something most Americans can't understand given all the freedoms that we have.

Whatever feeble complaints people have about Castro, we have REAL concerns with Red China and we bend over backwards AND forwards for the communists there. And they are screwing us everyday.
If some politician had the guts to open up to Cuba, that country would have been free years ago. Why, tell me, can you go and spend your tourist dollar in China where abortion is forced, AIDS researchers are jailed, the rule of law is a sad joke and the multitude of other outrages the Reds do and you can't do anything to free Cuba? Contact would change everything.

If you do actual research you would know that in the 1960s Castro allowed the Russians to put missiles that could reach the US on Cuba. The USA stopped this.

He is a ruthless Communist dictator. He nationalized (stole) millions of dollars of US businesses after the revolution. Plus, most importantly, he has a long, smelly-looking beard.

The Cuban Missile Crisis! He could have fired a missile at us and we would have no warning.
