How long can meat stay out of the fridge without going bad?
I'm referring to steak. I have a delicious Philly sandwich which I don't want to put in the work fridge because someone will steal it.

i would say about 30 min. before bacteria starts to form . put it in a plain brown bag labeled table scraps for rover, then put it in the fridge. or label it rancid, do not eat, taking back to sandwich shop.
want to put a stop to the thievery ?
leave it out all day and night, in a warm place.
put it in the fridge tomorrow.
let some one steal it.

Generally, I have always heard that most prepared foods can sit out for no more than 2 hours, but that's the max. If you want to be sure it's not bacteria infested, try and get it in that fridge within 1/2 hour to hour. I would totally go with some of those other suggestions too (like the "RANCID DO NOT EAT" one).

Do not leave uncooked/cooked meat out at room temperature. This can increase bacteria growth. You should leave your sandwhich in the refrigerator at work AND put your name on a sticky note. It's better than leaving it outside and getting sick later. There are food handling tips at the link below.

Well they say it takes about twenty minutes at room temperature for bacteria to start to grow and multiply. I wouldn't leave it out too long or you could get food poisoning.
