i want to make robots?

robots have 3 main components - the brains, the brawn, and the interconnection between the 2.

brains - you need to have some knowledge of programming in order to tell your robot what to do. robots are usually made using assembly language, but more and more, you are seeing robots done in c, c++, and even java.

brawn - your robot needs to be able to do something - you'll need some mechanical knowledge in order to put the robot together. does the robot move? it better have wheels (making a walking robot is really hard). does it need arms? how many? what kind of hand? how many fingers?

interconnection - you must put the program on a microchip, power the robot, and connect all the wiring. knowledge of electronics is required for this phase of the robot.

I highly recommend you start off by minimizing some of these needs. Consider starting with the Lego Mindstorms or Evolution Robotics kits. They are reasonably priced (under $400 in both cases) and provide lots of documentation to get you started. Don't let the fact that it's made by Lego fool you - the Mindstorms robot is fairly advanced and can be used to make lots of amazing robots.

You can read this book for fundamental knowledge "John J.Craig-Introduction to Robotics Mechanics and Control 3rd edition-Pearson Education, Inc. (2005) " and learn some programming.

You would need to have a good understanding of mechanical engineering - start with an introductory mechanical engineering textbook.
