A question about so called "Atheists"?
All of the Athiests I know are very intelligent people who really don't care what religion others are.Einstien & Edison were Atheists and I never heard any stories of either mocking others. They lived thier lives and believed in what they believed leaving others alone.
Carrie Nation was a Chistian who led a crusade against alcohol.
Although she never touched a drop she is considered an alcoholic because it ruled her actions.Seeing that the Atheists on these forums do not act like true Atheists Do you think they could be considered Christians because they think about Christianity constantly like Carrie nation thought about alcohol?
I really dont believe this....It was just something that came to mind and I thought it would be an interesting controversial topic for discussion.
Thanks for all your answers.

So temperance and fortitude are exclusive to Atheism but wild and obstinate judgments are traits exclusive to Christianity? Isn't that narrow? There are many intelligent Christians who do not bug other people, strangely my old pastor would not engage in controversial discussions either during or after church, he just said what the Bible said and never spoke against anyone. Certainly both Atheists and every religious sect has intelligent and patient members, while they also have aggressive and judgmental people.

Carrie Nation was obsessed to the point of allowing herself to be consumed by it.
There's no such thing as a "true atheist". We come in all flavors. We'd normally be content just living our lives except for one thing: Since the 80s the Religious Right has been intruding on politics, law, and science, attempting to shoehorn their religious superstitions into everyone else's lives. Including ours. Our activism online and elsewhere is at least partly a backlash to that activity.

ahhhhhhhhhhh,no, the atheist are NOT Christians, no thank you, not these rude people who come here, no way, you non-believers can keep them on your side of the isle.
Now I used to be an atheist and am a Christian, but I was never rude about it, nasty and mean spirited like these atheist that come the R&S even though they say they don't believe in R&S and throw out insult after insult, calling Christians stupid, ignorant, dumb, uneducated people. Saying that we're not smart or educated, therefore we are Christians. That is just NOT TRUE, I am an educated Christian, I go to a white collar church with professional, well educated people.
Atheist who come to R&S have proven themselves to be morons, and that is about as polite a word that I can find to describe these visious people.

It's a different time. What sort of censure would Einstein or Edison have dealt with back in their respective periods? What exactly is a "true" atheist? With the argument concerning evolution -vs- intelligent design, do we really want to see another Scopes Monkey trial?

"True atheist"? Isn't that as much a logical fallacy as when Fundies say people aren't "true Christians"?
The definition for atheist is someone without a belief in god. Period. If someone has no belief in any gods they are an atheist. You don't get to redefine that word to make you more comfortable about the actions of others.

The problem you're having is that you're treating atheism as if it were a cohesive group. It's not. Atheism simply means you don't believe in any gods. That's it. Period. A nice atheist is no more or less an atheist than a mean one. There are no tenants to atheism, no rules. It's on or off, one or zero. There is no particular way that atheists are "supposed" to be.

Wayne, I went to intense college contained in the Seventies and that i had a magnificent Agnostic instructor who refused to bypass to any religious proper assemblies and requested to be allowed to provide a study hall in case you chosen no longer to attend them. He become very vivid and that i discovered a great deal from him on the prompt. I felt like he had an exciting perspective and allowed me to question him and puzzled me contained in the technique so as that i'd initiate questioning openly about my beliefs. I attended 5 diverse colleges round our state and had distinct tremendous instructors who did a similar style of questioning. i got here across it quite enlightening even although I later wanting to change right into a Christian. Being open-minded and questioning does no longer advise that you undertake someones perspectives. It signifies that you're open adequate to hearken to and imagine about what others say with out judging them for those ideas. i'm grateful to were uncovered to this on the prompt. I also believe that someone can call me slender-minded with out being so them-self. i'm quite slender-minded at cases. Have an magnificent evening and a magnificent week. thanks, Eds .

I know of atheists that keep their views to themselves, as well as some Christians. The ones who think about it constantly, have a way bigger problem than Atheism, or Christianity.

Do you think that Christians who constantly badger Atheists are Atheists too?

To be a true Atheist means NO believe in a higer power of any kind...sometimes I think people forget the meaning a true Atheist. not believing in a God doesn't make you an Athiest it's not believing in any higher power that does it....
