03 Jetta problem?

In the mornings, after a real cold night, our 03 Jetta will not get out of "park". The shift is just stuck in park and will not move into reverse. I can usually mess around with it to get it to work after a few minutes, but this is really annoying! Anyone know the reason for this and/or fix?

    The "Brake Light Switch" under your break pedal is currently under RECALL. I had this issue myself. It's a very easy fix. I don't think it's the cold night :-) Its more that it's works up a "Stickyness" after a while.

    For your information, the part that is failing isn't actually made by VW, and is also used in some ford cars.

    Its about the same technology as the little button in your refrigerator that turns the light off and on inside when you close the door.

    If you don't feel like bothering to take it to the dealer, the part can be purchased on tdiparts.com for ~$10.00

    Your car probably has the "4 pin" version, not the 2 pin version, but you would want to double check.

    VW will begin the recall in April;

    owners can contact VW at (800) 822-8987.

    I reckon your alternator isn't charging the battery and each and each of something befell while the final drop of potential went out of your battery. At worst it is going to intend a clean alternator. that's for sure achievable that a cable from the alternator has fractured, could desire to be truthfully appeared after out.you may get the alternator repaired for extra or less £60 to £70 the removal and refitting shouldn't take and hour so a bill of approximately £117 would be approximately real.

    Make sure you are pushing down hard on the brake. The release may not be working well when it is cold.

    see this one at least a dozen times a week. you have a bad brake light switch. there is a recall on these. called an N4 recall. get it fixed sooner, rather than later before it dont work at all.

    Could just be the cold, although this is odd for a modern car.

    As its the transmission, try changing the gear-box fluid.

    i hope you got it out of park, from what i know for automatic transmitions there is park swtich or sensor(don't remember) anyways if they go bad, you can't get your car out of park.

    look for that issue on the net.
