why am i so tired?

lately (since about christmas) i've been feeling so tired, i eat a reasonably healthy diet and excercise for a couple of hours three times a week, which i have done for a couple of years now. i find i get tired mid-afternoon which i think is the post lunch dip, but i also get tired early evening, i can happily 'nap' for an hour or so in the evening and then go to bed for 8 hours at night, even then i cant get up in the morning. i feel very lethergic all the time, like i cant be bothered doing anything, and also feel a bit lightheaded sometimes.

the only things i have changed since christmas is i came off the pill (prev been on for 8 yrs) to try for a baby and started taking prenatal vits. i have tested for pregnancy but got a negative.

could it just be hormonal or could it be something else?

Update:

War, i think the symptoms you had early on in pregnancy were because you were pregnant, not because of the vitamins.

Seasonal Affective Disorder causes sufferers to be tired all the time, sleep more and generally lethargic and depressed, and coming off the pill could well have exaggerated the symptoms of this.

I suffer from this and I think it gets worse and worse every year. Why oh why do I choose to live in cold, dark, wintry Scotland???

i think your problem is the prenatals. they have more vitamins than a normal body needs thats not pregnant. too much iron possibly not sure. ive had 5 kids and i remember even early on that i felt so tired an lightheaded cause i was taking prenatals at the time so i stopped taking them an i felt better. when i was further along in pregnancies and started to feel weak i started to take them again and they helped so i figured it was too much too soon. but still eat well. if you still feel this way after a week with no vitamins try a banana a day an if that doesnt work see ur doctor. i hope it helps.

For many women, stress is to blame for daytime drowsiness. "For a variety of reasons, anxiety and tension affect women more intensely than men, and often contribute to insomnia and other sleeping problems," If you're not stressed out but still feel unusually sluggish, a serious medical issue may be the reason. "If you're sleeping through the night and take good care of yourself but still feel wiped out, your body is probably trying to tell you that something's not right," If you suspect that hormones are the source of your exhaustion, keep a sleep diary and look for patterns that may correspond to symptoms such as PMS and hot flashes. Then make a few simple lifestyle changes. I wish you Good luck!!!!!

Try taking Women's One a Day. Maybe it's a lack of Vitamins.

I use to be like that. Sluggish and feeling tired all the time, but once I started taking Men's One a Day and started a Workout routine, I feel great.

This is just a suggestion, if you still feel tired after trying this, go to Doctor for physical.

Hi - sounds like under active thyroid to me, also this can have an effect on your conception rates until it is treated. Go and get your thyroid levels checked by your doctor (anaemia too, if your periods are reasonably heavy) and get it fixed. I fully understand, been there too, and you can get to a stage where you are soooo lethargic that it seems too much trouble to get anything done that is not essential - so sooner rather than later should be your motto!

Good luck and hope you get your situation resolved soon

Could be anemia, or it could be a psychological thing. the fact that you are trying for a baby and have had no luck, unfortuately, could be making you subconsciously unhappy also. It is best to go to a doctor if it is hormonal though, and also talk about your worries to someone if that isn't the case, you might find it helps.

Could be lots of things , are you feeling low depression can cause feelings of no energy and tiredness, are you over or under eating this can also be a pointer . So could thyroid problems, diabetes and lots of other problems. its open to speculation really. Best thing to do is talk to your doctor or other medical professional at your family planning center.

It could definitely be hormonal. However, you could also be suffering Seasonal Affective Disorder. Sometimes the solution can be as simple as installing full-spectrum bulbs in your house.

Have you been tested for anaemia? Your symptoms sound similar to being anaemic. Ask your Doctor for an iron level test.

sounds as if you need to see your doctor for blood tests. Could be anaemia, and you may need a course of iron tablets to get you back feeling OK again.
