I am deathly afraid of dentists and I am getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow?

I am getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow and I am going to be awake through the entire procedure. I know it isn't that big of a deal, but I can't help being afraid. Are there any suggestions of how to at least keep my mind focused on something else? Thanks!

It's very common to fear dental work. And getting several teeth out at one time is really scary. However, remember all those people you know who have had them out and are just fine. - that is the logical part of our brain that can say the above to us.

But our emotions are a different story. They are very sensitive. Try to tell yourself that it's ok to be scared. That it's perfectly natural and normal to be scared. And that it's ok to relax and let the professionals do their work. And that it's ok to think about your favourite music and perhaps even bring along earphones and music you love and wear them if you have them.

Just be gentle with you!! And if you can, meditate before and during the procedure.

    All the best.

If youre freakin out about it, ask them to knock you out with nitrous, or whatever else they want to give you. My dentist said that he was gonna keep me awake, but all i remember is waking up in a bench in the dentists office after it was done and someone else gave me a ride home. They put that mask over your mouth and ask you to count backwards from 10. I think I made it to 8. It feels kinda cool when you wake up. Just make sure that they prescribe you something for pain, just in case. And have someone there to drive you home. Overall, as far as surgeries go, id rate wisdom teeth removal as an overall pleasant experience. Just make sure they know how tense you are ahead of time so they can give you the right stuff so you dont get freaked out during the extraction.

Yes you are definetly not alone on the being afraid part. Two things i can suggest one is asked to be sedated. I was knock out when i had mine pulled. Or to ask for a couple of valium whenyo get there I always make the dentist knock me out or give me 2 or more valium due to my fear. They should have no prblem and probably see it all the time. good luck and make sure to ask for extra srtength pain relivers you will need them the next moring. And just hope you do not get a dry socket i did and it sucked. They had to jam clove strips that tasted so fircken bad like cloves in the whole where the tooth use to be. And they had to redo it 3 times every 24 hours till better.

Wisdom teeth, if they need to come out, will do so fairly easily. The anesthetics used nowadays make the procedure almost painless. Think of a favorite song, put it in your head when you go into the dentist's room, and just keep playing it in your head throughout the procedure. It will be over before you know it.

You'll be given enough medications that you'll feel nothing during the procedure. "Awake", is very loosely applied in circumstances such as this. You could easily sleep through it. All they mean by "awake" is that they'll not "knock you out". You'll be, for lack of a better term, so "high", that you'll not even be able to pay much attention to what's happening...and might well doze-off all on your own. It'll be OK, ok?

The one thing that always works for me is to take a portable music source with a good set of headphones and listen to my favorite music during the procedure.

Don't worry too much, the dentist will probably inject pain killers into your gums so it shouldn't hurt too much

If theres no pain killers involved with the procedure.......try keeping all of your awareness somewhere else like your heartbeat

would you be able call your dentist in the a.m., and let them know that you are having overwhelming fear about having this done; ask if a mild sedative, such as Valium, can be administered. (you would need someone to drive you there and back.)

    Mp3 player.

    Lots of nitrous.

Do what I did...find one that will put you nearly completely under.
