You're not the only one to think so. I see it all the time in my work: students who think that they're entitled to an A for simply showing up to class, even if they don't do the outside work. The way people drive, speak, and are obsessed with *personal* media--it's all about naricissism.

I have a theory that it comes from contradictory messages regarding individualism and pride in the media; people look to celebrity as the highest form of personal achievement, rather than celebrating those people who work to articulate and philosophize about their place in the world.

Well I have a job and I work for what I have, but I'm going to be honest and say that I really like getting free stuff too! I don't think that there's anything wrong with that until you start to EXPECT it as if it were your entitlement to get freebies. Kinda like those cute blonds that go to bars without any money because they know guys are going to pay for their drinks! LOL!

I have to agree with you. It all started in the 60's with the social programs the government began. Now we've raised two generations of people thinking the government owes them everything.

People need to get up off their butts and put in a hard days work for what they get. They need to spend their own money on food, clothes, cigarettes, etc and then maybe they would appreciate thing more.

Unfortunately, it is society. I was brought up to earn what you have but it is so much easier to demand others to give. Why work when someone will give you everything you need if you don't have a job? Why pay when someone will give you something for nothing?

Trouble is, one day, that attitude will catch up with society. What happens when nobody works?

hmm. not sure. i'll have to listen to more. the only radiohead comparison i heard was in the vocal - maybe i've not heard enough radiohead? (i have....) i saw mew at a festival in denmark - but i didn't pay them enough attention, and haven't got round to following them up. oh well.

It's a media-driven world we live in where we are exposed to thousands of ad-driven messages every day.

These messages create a sense of need ... a sense of urgency to instantly gratify one's self.

we just got done seeing how much taxes we've paid in and we're depressed and poor! lol
