Is my bird cage big enough?

I recently bought a 18" l x 18" w x 22" h cage. I am planning on buying a budgie to add to the cage (I have the other needed supplies too). Is the cage big enough? I can't afford more. Also, would it be too small for two budgies?

Update:

The bar spacing is 1/2". 2 sides of the cage have horizontal bars, and the other 2 have vertical.

Yes that cage should be large for one or two budgies.

You could also ut a lovebird or a cockatiel in the cage; but no bigger than a tiel.

there is not any reason to make investments in bedding once you should use undeniable previous newspaper on the bottom of the cage. Even paper towels are effective. Or more suitable positive yet, there are loose wanted classified ads on the great market that are available books that you'll shrink to in good structure the bottom tray. another day pull out the tray, rip off the genuine web page of the e book, and also you've a clean sheet of paper for that day. which will stay away from some funds for a clean larger cage in some months. there is continuously a neighbor that needs a backyard shrink for some weeks which could help the fee of a cage too. in case you look on the gap the birds have WITH toys contained in the cage, it truly is no longer an particularly massive cage. to furnish the birds the room they prefer, please carry close the toys on the perimeters of the cage and in no way contained in the middle. this can provide the birds room to flap their wings without hurting themselves or getting stuck in toys. reliable luck!

It sounds big enough, but it's the bar spacing that's more important here than cage size. Since a budgie is a small bird, the spacing shouldn't be wide enough for him to get his head through. Measure the bar spacing. It shouldn't be more than 1/2".

that sounds fine, especialy if you take them out to fly/walk around. asuming that they aren't already tame, you can use this meathod.

you have to be extremely gentle.

1 try to put your hand in the cage, but don't touch him. if he flies away, try again in about 15 min. repeat until he doesn't fly away.

2 the next day, or week, when he is comfy with you hand in the cage, start stretching it around and opening and closing it.

3 after he is comfortable with 2, probably about a day, and doesn't fly away, hold a small perch in your hand and move it towards him. if he flies away, try again in a few min.

4 after he is comfortable with that, move the perch rite above his feet, and say step up, wile gently pushing up on his abdomen. he should step up hold him there a few min. then put him back on his solid perch and leave him alone. this shows him that this thing really isn't so bad, and that it is safe to sit on.

5 next, after doing step 4 for about a day, every 15 min or so, get a short perch, about as long as your finger, and hold it with your finger on top, do step 4.

6 then do it w/o the perch. gradually move out of the cage, out of the room, to a different floor, until he is OK with it all. i wouldn't keep i longer than 5 min. out of his cage. the next day, add a min. to get it up to 6 min. next day, 7. animals need this gradual adjustment. it may seem to be taking forever, but he needs that. good luck!

That should be plenty of room. Before buying a second bird, just remember that a single bird will be more affectionate to you. If you have 2 birds, they will have company but will be less dependant on you for affection and company.

    The size sounds fine.

If you want the bird to like you and bond to you, get one. If you have two it is hard to train them and they will bond to each other.

Keep in mind, you also need toys, cuttlebone, and proper perches for the bird.
