Why are DVD players so loud when they work?

DVD disks spin faster. I believe CD's spin at 200-500 rpm while DVD's(16x) spin at 4600 rpm

Personally I think that it's due to the quality of your player. Just like when you buy a car. The more you spend on it the quieter the engine. For exmaple, you buy a ford focus and compare it to the latest Lexus. Or the other reason is that when you are watching a DVD you watch it silience and therefore you notice any other sound.

My only solution for you will be to buy a cupboard of some description to put your player inside to drown out the sound.

We have 5 DVD player throughout our 2 homes. Good quality ones IE. Sony are very quiet were as the inexpensive ones from the supermarkets tend to be noisy

As mentioned above, if it's a decent quality player, it should be very quiet in operation.

The Argos and supermarket specials (Bush, Goodmans, Alba, Beko, Digivision, Funai, etc, etc) will all be noisy. This is one of the reasons why they are cheap.

MAYBE THE DEFINITION HAS BEEN IMPROVED OVER THE YEARS
