Which was more valueable to King Arthur, his sword Excalibur, or the scabbard?

King Arthur's sword was made of blue steel, the hilt made of ivory and gold. It was kept in a silver scabbard made of silver, and studded with precious gems.It was give to him by Nimue, The lady of Lake Avalon.

The Tradition: The Name "Excalibur" was first used for King Arthur's sword by the French Romancers. It was not the famous "Sword in the Stone" (which broke in battle), but a second sword acquired by the King through the intercession of his druidic advisor, Merddyn (Merlin). Worried that Arthur would fall in battle, Merlin took the King to a magical lake where a mysterious hand thrust itself up from the water, holding aloft a magnificent sword. It was the Lady of the Lake offering Arthur a magic unbreakable blade, fashioned by an Avalonian elf smith, along with a scabbard which would protect him as long as he wore it.

I VOTE SCABBARD FOR PROTECTION ABILITY

    King Arthur Scabbard

The sword was more valuable due to the *power* contained within. The scabbard is simply a pretty case, although given by The Lady of the Lake.

Arthur preferred his sword. After all he was careless enough to allow the scabbard to be stolen by Morgan le Fay. It was throw in a lake, and don't remember the The Lady making a fuss about its loss.

Contrast with the sword, with which Arthur was only parted from in his dieing hours. Followed by a class piece of fielding from the aforementioned damp female to catch it as she did.

though both were extremely important the answer truly is the scabbard. and the way Morgan Le Fay stole it is because she had set a trap for him and after drugging him and forcing him to be in a tournament she sent arthur her love and a copy of excalibur, the real sword she had given to her lover who unbeknownst to him was fighting Arthur whom she was trying to kill. Arthur had a crappy sword and a scabbard that wasn't protecting him, while the lover couldn't sucumb to his wounds with the scabbard on. when he rose arthurs helm to strike off his head he refused to kill his king. while arthur was getting better at a nearby nunnery, morgan came in while he was asleep and stole the scabbard throwing it in a lake the nuns trusted her since she was his sister and let her go in to see him unacompanied. she then tried to kill arthur again later. while she never succeded her son did eventually suceed where his mother had failed. plus when arthur first got the sword merlin asked him which he thought better the sword or the scabbard and arthur said the sword while merlin told him he was wrong since the scabbard would protect his life in battle. sorry this is long but you wanted to know.

The sword was more important. It is what the sword represented. Anyone can have beautiful things without meaning. But when someone holds onto something that has meaning to its being its value increases. Excalibur, was part of Arthur being king. One with the land and so forth.

The scabbard was much more valuable as it supposedly had the power to heal injuries received in battle. The scabbard was stolen by Morgan le Fay and thrown into a lake, never to be found again.

I'd choose the Lady of the Lake over the sword anyday!

I would say the sword you wouldn't cut many heads off with the scabbard would you .
