My DVD burner can't read that a dvd is in it, can you help?
When I put a blank dvd in to burn one, the burner reads "No Disc or Drive Not Ready". In the year I've had this HP 740b burner, it has done this occasionally. Now, though, it is the whole time.
I've tried different blank DVDs and even blank ones from a whole different set (in case the first set were all bad).
I've restarted the (HP) computer, let a blank dvd sit in the burner for hours, done a System Restore, tried Device Manager troubleshooter, and cursed at it alot. Nothing seems to help, though cursing did make me feel better. LOL
I'm quite confident it is not spyware/adware or a virus.
Any useful ideas/suggestions very much appreciated.
I do use Nero 7. Also, it now apparently won't read any dvd, already burned or not.

Delete the DVD drive from your device manager screen. Do a system refresh or, restart the computer, whatever you feel comfortable with. If the computer doesn't recognize the drive, than it more than likely is a hardware problem, especially since you mentioned that it used to work.
If the computer doesn't recognize the drive and you feel comfortable opening your computer up, check that none of the cables have come loose. Depending on the age of your system, you may also want to take the reset the drive pin to master or slave (I don't know your setup) instead of relying on the "cable select" setting. Sometimes older ribbons can get a bit ornery.

Try a CD/DVD lens cleaning kit, available at fine retail stores everywhere.
