why do black people (especially women) feel the need to bleach their skin?

i for one like a woman with a beautiful natural skin. no freakin 2 colored faces. if a woman is ugly, its ususally not because of her skin color, its usually because her facial features dont complement each other and she has a bad shape, its not because she is dark. so my ladies, throw away those poisonous lotions and learn to love yourselves.

You are talking about a minority of black people. People have all manor of insecurities. The media doesn't help, few black stars are dark skinned, some folks feel the need to try and look like those people.

For the same reason some white woman are obsessed with tanning, curvy or overweight people are obsessed with dieting, and plastic surgery is such a profitable business. Media and society in general portrays an image of what is considered "beautiful", and some people who don't fit this image feel the need to alter themselves. I agree that people should learn to love themselves the way they are.

I have had to bleach my skin because of a bad sunburn that left one side of my face discolored, lol, I looked likeTwo Face. I'd never use some chemical lightener, I think the infinate range of skin colors of all people are beautiful.

It's human nature for any of us to not like what we have. Most of us are always thinking "the grass is greener on the other side".

Me? I hate my curly hair and go to great lengths to keep it straight. I tan during the summer because I hate my pale complexion. Many people get plastic surgery for those same reasons. We are all our own worst critics, and we tend to want to change the things about ourselves we like the least, without realizing that true beauty shines from within.

In most cultures, it is traditional that high-class ladies do not work in the sun, so they have lighter skin than lower-class women. It is usually acceptable and admired that men spend time outdoors.

One exception is among white American women, who like to make their skin darker by lying in the sun. Nobody thinks they were working in the fields.

People don't like to be outcast, and there is a lot of hatred against black people. :/ Which is kind of crap really. Women especially like to feel close with their group, so they feel more of a need to be accepted within their group. So perhaps they feel that bleaching their skin white will make them more together?

Why do white people (especially women) feel the need to tan their skin?

See how stupid your question is? Yes, people should probably love the skin they're in but why do people make a big deal about blacks or anyone else with dark skin lightening their skin, yet it's perfectly fine for people with light skin to go tan. It's their body anyway, so what they do with it shouldn't really matter to you.

becos the bloody media and hollywood has convinced the entire earth that whiter is nicer... SHAME! A serial killer is often screened as a lover and a romantic, and it works when he's white and handsome. But when he is from an "other" clolour, bye bye charming, hello terrorist. this is a double standard world, and as long as we do not admit, it will not get fixed. cheers.

This question sort of have me confused. As an African American/ Black woman I have never met a black female who wanted to or have BLEACHED their skin.

    Are you serious?

This is definitely a weird question.

Dark complexions are beautiful, enriching and unique. I get so many compliments on my complexion.

So weird question...no answer for this one.
