Cruise ships have always been popular and they were even more so before transatlantic flights. The Titanic was built to be the star of the Cunard fleet. It was supposedly unsinkable and safe. It was also luxurious. The upper decks were like a 5 star hotel.

Even the lower decks were comfortable and could best be compared to a AAA motel. Not that bad.

Cruise ships were big business and there was a lot of competition. It's not as intense today, but companies still compete with each other to offer the best deals and the best accommodations.

The problem with the Titanic was they sacrificed safety for comfort and the metal alloy used in the hull was not as strong as they thought in ice cold water.

The outcome of the Titanic disaster were regulations to guard the safety of ALL passengers (not just the rich ones) and better communication and rescue techniques.

The most valuable commodity in the world is space. The only real value a seagoing vessel has is space that is right SPACE ! Everything on a vessel costs the owners money and the only thing a vessel has to pay for the expenses and show a profit is space. The Titanic had space for sale to passengers and then the ship would move the space from England to New York and back at a profit hopefully. The time to make the round trip was also a factor otherwise sailing ships would not have been replaced by steam ships. The Titanic was following the great circle route (the shortest route) that took them to the northard and into ice infested waters. Had the drive for profit not been so intense they may have done better but the Titanic's design was for speed and size to meet existing market conditions.

If you would like a present day counterpart look at supertankers size (space) and speed produce profits. Think about space for a moment and you can realize how valuable it is.

Your home is basically space you control. Your school is a space where teachers and students create an education. An office or factory is a space where business is done. A store is space where commerice happens. A sky scraper is a lot of expensive space on a small amount of space. A trailor truck is moving space to carry frieght across land. A train is moving space to move heavey frieght or passengers across areas The Titanic was a lot of valuable space that could cross oceans

It was built for the same reason that everything is built, to improve on what has already been made. If there weren't ambitious people in the world we wouldn't have a lot of the modern luxuries that we have. Televisions could have stopped at the first model that was made. Cars could have stopped at the Model T and we would still be puttin around instead of having the new, improved models that get us places at 80 miles per hour.

Anyone should know that the building of the Titanic was about improvement. This isn't a generic reason.

Is building a replica of the Titanic possible? That depends on how exact the replica needs to be. I am sure the original drawings are lost. Yes it would be easy to make a ship that just looks like the Titanic, if even money was spent.

The Titanic was built for luxury and to be the biggest ocean-liner in the world. So it could transport people from Europe to America so they can start new lives.

They wanted to built a luxery ship that could not sink!

They claimed this ship to be the first ship that absolutely could not sink because of the waterproof partitions.

Unfortunately it sunk on its first journey......was it because of the curse of the egyptian mummy there had in the hold, transporting it to some american museum?
