betta fish looks very bloated?

I am babysitting or fishsitting my friends betta and it looks sick but acts normal. It has 2 huge bumps on its underside and it looks like the skin is stretching. The thing is its been like this for quite a long time and he acts like a normal betta fish. Is this something to be worried about?

If he's not having trouble staying down and he doesn't look like a pinecone, it's probably nothing to worry about. I wouldn't treat him for anything until your friend comes back, simply because if you do it wrong you'll get stuck buying the new betta.

Beta fish mate, and launch the eggs and sperm - the place then the male collects the eggs and places them in a bubble nest. So no, no longer pregnant. 0% threat. would have dropsy. One betta I observed 2 weeks in the past had it. damn situation nevertheless has it. And continues to be alive. carry her right into a puppy shop, have somebody take a glance and be certain it for you. pay attention, maximum bettas are extra durable yet drugs can kill them (even in small quantities). Edit: attempt giving her a cooked and shelled pea. stable for them and would help.

if it's 2 bumps, and not just his whole belly swollen, it could well be tumours. bettas are prone to tumours and i had my first one die from it. this is incurable and they will act normal. mine eventually became lethargic, developed dropsy (see paragraph below) and died.

if it's the whole belly swollen, cut back on food! for a day or two and watch him carefully. if you see raised scales all the way round this is Dropsy and in most cases is fatal. Dropsy is caused by a primary infection which then causes the internal organs to shut down causing pineconing.

I would not worry too much. There is nothing you could do anyway. If it does die well It's not like you can prevent it anyway. So don't worry...Things will work out. They always do... Smiles to you. :-)
