Why are political discussions so emotionally charged?

They're charged because there's no middle ground left. It's hard to think of a single issue on which both liberals and conservatives agree. We've all become entrenched in our positions because the times we live in are so frightening, and we're afraid of what will happen if the "other guys" come to/retain power. It's sad, really -- I think maybe libertarians are the only party that can relate (at least somewhat) to both sides. (I'm not a libertarian, btw, so that wasn't a plug for them!) :-)

The liberal talking points are full of hate these days. Hate is an emotion that sometimes gets tossed around in here. I agree name calling is for children, though we do act like psycho-therapists sometimes.

Emotionally Charged? i do see it, some of The stuff i see on here i would expect from a 4th grader too. I didn't know discussion of politics could be...well....so immature.

No, we can't "agree to disagree." Politics are not just a theoretical exercise, ideas have consequences.

It's been going on for centuries. "You bleeping Whig!" .."You bleeping Federalist!" Get used to it. Everyone has different emotionally charged views about everything. That's why they call it politics.

It would be nice, it's when people attack the other that the fight begins. I think this is probably a place to blow off steam and we think we are telling someone who cares.It works I guess even tho it's not nice.

Half the people on here are just trolls - they got kicked off the Yahoo! message boards, but are stuck behind firewalls or something and cant get into the chat rooms.

They are stuck starting fights and posting ignorant B.S. on here.
