Does anyone remember Farrells Ice Cream and Candy shop?

What's your favorite memory? The pig trough eating contest? The foam hats on the ceiling? The Huge jawbreakers and lollypops in the candy store? Childhood birthday parties? Do you think that this concept is due for a comeback?

Absolutely! We were in San Diego Calif and went looking for Farrel's. We only found the one in Cerny Mesa I think and it was a roll back in time. It wasn't the same. It was in a shopping center and it seemed like a franchise. I remember the fire brigade and the waiters and waitresses delivering ice cream with the fire hats and the siren and the clanging of the bell. I would like to start my own and I have been figuring a way to do it someday.

What a fun place that was! I remember the stretcher too. Didn't go except for birthday parties a couple of times before the one in the South SF Bay Area closed.

I do have a very fond memory from Farrells, I think I was turning 6 or 7 and my mom and I went there, and she let me get one of those giant jawbreakers. It should make a comeback, I would take my kids there.

Yeah, it was at it's height when I was in high school back in the late '60's. I remember this one guy who both played football and was in the stage crew could consume the whole thing in about 10 mins or less. He was the only guy I ever saw do this. I don't know why the chain went out of business, leaving us with Baskin-Robbins and Coldstone. Probably not enough profit just selling ice cream. candy and drinks.

Wow, I thought they were a smalltime operation in Metro Detroit. Who knew that they were all over. I remember going there for birthday parties and just for icecream. It was alot of fun watching people attempt to eat all the piggie wiggie and when the drums came out to celebrate somebodies birthday or anniversary. Awesome memories.

i used to work at one in the sf bay area - one of my favorite memories was the whole staff coming out and singing if we had a birthday to celebrate. oh, and the huge ice cream sundae we brought out on a "stretcher". :)

we had one. I was simply a fan of the sundays - yeah, I miss it from time to time, but I would have to ditch that one big loud drum - that was too much. Especially once I got to be older than say eight. Why, you planning on opening one?

they would sing happy birthday to you..

Needs to be brought back. there is a market for it in upscale areas such as birchdale and ballentyne.
