Why do Christians feel they own this section and that "religion and spirituality" means Christianity only?

The word "Christianity" or any reference of it was not included in your "case in point".

The guy was referring to anyone and everyone on the R&S forum who have a belief system, thats all.

If you believe that this section is only set up for Christians, you are very mistaken.

We have peoples of all faiths here - hell, some even worship Zeus. We have a real mix, and I'm Christian, and wouldn't want it any other way; the only thing that bothers me is when someone gets on here and asks a question like: don't you think we should flay alive all those dirty nasty____________. (you fill in the blank, we get all of them)

When this happens, you will see everybody, Christian, Buddhists, athiests, everybody comes together as one and tells the asker how unwelcome they are. Thats when you see that regardless of our beliefs, all of us are a part of this section.

When you ask a question like this one that you just asked, it is you who are trying to cause more of a separation between peoples, not any one group. You.

I don't think that at all. How I am I responsible for the posts of another person? There are over 2 billion of us that are Catholic alone. God only knows how many protestants and others that are also calling themselves Christians. How is it possible to have so many of us without attracting some knuckleheads? I would say it is a mathematical impossibility to expect that we have no stupid or bad people among us. But why aren't 2 billion of us behaving poorly? Is it because most of us actually know better? I think so. Regardless of what belief system you choose to look at, you will often find that it is the foolish people who make the most noise and get the most attention but represent the least amount of people. Peace be with you

My guess that most of the readers and responders to these questions approach religion and spirituality from a Christian background and experience. I have noticed several discussions of Islam. An audience that included more Buddhists would, no doubt, result in a more Buddhist perspective.

I have a hypothesis that I am testing using this Forum for a conference paper I am writing.

It is based upon two observations, not yet validated:

    1. That questions marked, “Christians/Believers Only” (or equivalent) will be heavily responded to by Non-Believers.

    2. That questions marked, “Atheists/Non-Believers Only” (or equivalent) will not be heavily responded to by Christians.

The test involves counting the number of respondents in both categories to determine, using a statistical chi-square test, which of the observations is correct.

To date, after observing the responses so entitled above for three months the number of responses by atheists/non-believers to questions that clearly indicate that the question is for believers has outnumbered the second observation above by about 4 to 1.

In a subsequent study I intend to categorize the content of responses for both observations based upon the following labels: baiting, cogent, flippant, hate-mongering, informative, proselytizing, and reasoned.

The assumed conclusions I hope to draw from the content analysis are not fully formed as yet. But some that I am noodling over include:

    1. That non-believers are not confident of their non-belief; and generally do not ignore questions explicitly targeting believers.

    2. That believers are confident of their beliefs and generally ignore questions explicitly targeting non-believers.

    3. That believers and non-believers are overly zealous and will evangelize their beliefs, without being invited to do so, with a less than substantive understanding of the issues under discussion.

    4. That non-believers are more negatively vocal in their responses to questions targeting believers versus offering cogent and reasoned rationales in their responses.

    5. That believers are more negatively vocal in their responses to questions targeting believers outside their own belief systems, versus offering cogent and reasoned rationales in their responses.

    6. That believers and non-believers ignore their presuppositions when offering reasoned responses, hence they are “talking past one another” instead of establishing a common epistemological framework for discussion.

Again, a statistical test will be used to determine the validity of these assumptions.

    Stay tuned.

i think of a few people refer to faith as "brainwashing" because of the fact they in my opinion sense they have been prompted with the help of kinfolk and society (predominately from an early age) to have faith in a faith they might now no longer thoroughly have faith in. hence, those everybody is left with a feeling of being wrongly prompted with the help of the very comparable people they have faith. The term "brainwashing" is obviously an exceedingly adverse term to throw around, and can be particularly of an over-exaggeration, yet people as a effect are in many circumstances describing the term from a private point.

I think what the asker meant was, "why do non-believers try to answer questions about Christianity?" In which case, would be silly. That would be like me trying to answer a question about nuclear fusion.

God owns everything..........We, as true and faithful servants of God are commanded by Him to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world so that all of Humanity may eventually come to their salvation and eternal life in the coming Kingdom of God......Case in Point made clear.

I failed to see your point. he asked why non-religious people answered religious questions...I don't even think he mentioned Christianity...let me check again..nope, he didn't. were you trying to use this particular question to prove that Christians think that R&S was christian only? if so, you failed. Or if you were trying to use that question to back up your false statement, you failed again because what I gathered from the answers, everyone, some more sarcastic than others, agreed that this section was for everyone with questions regarding religion or spirituallity. So my question to you, even if your statement is true, why do you care what Christians think?

Your case in point is moot.

We don't feel we own this section however, we do believe we have the right to speak our beliefs just as YOU do.

Why do others believe this section is for THEM and not Christians.

The First Amendment applies to EVERY one not just non-Christians.

Source(s): Amendment I: Freedom of SPEECH, religion, PRESS, petition and assembly. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the FREEDOM OF SPEECH, or of the PRESS; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Dude, this means any religion or spirituality. Just a second ago I saw a question in this category about a Muslim.
