Suburu, Forester - 1998?

I have beeen told that I need new front wheel bearings and that it is expensive. ALso, that I would get a shimmey and the shimmey has now started to happen. My vehicle has 176,000 miles. Does it really need bearings or, does it need somehting else to stop the shimmey?

If you hear a howling or growl coming from front end while steering you probably do need them, if it howls when you steer left replace the right bearing and vice versa for other side.

Before you spend a lot of money trying to guess the problem, try rotating the tires from the front to the rear.It is not uncommon for a tire to cause this type of situation.Good luck
