Child is going to be 9 years old...is she too old for the family cookout party?

Child (girl) is going to be 9 years old...is she too old for the family cookout birthday party?

We are thinking about having her party at a skating rink and inviting her friends and cousins her age. I'm thinking that it might be easier on us...as far as planning and set-up/cleaning-up. AND we will not be so worried that people are not showing because it is the weekend that 1/2 of the family goes on their annually camping trip. Any family member interested in giving gifts can spend time with her or mail money.

Does this sound like a bad idea...or is it to be expected at her age?

Update:

My family is never invited to go on the camping trip. My husband & I were planning on staying at the skating rink with the party..and possibly skating with them.

This is a completely fabulous idea. She is about the age where it's natural that she might want to spend her birthday having fun with children her own age rather than at a cookout with family. I applaud you for being so interested in her well being and for being for invested in what she wants as well. It's a great idea for her and her friends to go to a skating rink. It's fun for her, and it's easier on you. Just keep an eye on her at the skating rink- that's how I got 7 stiches on my knee! If your family still wants to have a birthday party for her with family, switch it to another weekend and have a smaller get-together, like a pizza party.

It sounds as though you can't decide whether your daughter should spend time with her family or her friends? I think you should have the party for her friends on a different day than the get together with the family. Does your family normally go on the camping trip too? That way she can do both. The skating rink thing is good as long as you or another adult is there to supervise the whole time. Kids sometimes run wild at those places and can get into serious trouble. good luck.

She is definitely not too old for a family cookout party. 9 year old girls should stay with the family and do almost everything with their families. She is not yet a teenager. So why not have her spend more time with the family than with others. Also, it is also good include family and friends together at a cookout. It will make the kid happier.

Dressing up the boy as a princess gained't make him gay, or a serial killer, or depressed as he receives older. He should be embarrassed with assistance from it yet who doesn't have any embarrassment from their adolescents? If this replaced into any incorrect way round and a woman had to dress up in as a prince no individual ought to assert something. Is dressing up as a princess his concept or yours? It sounds like it really is yours. My suggestion ought to easily ask him what he needs or take him down the dress isle and enable him %. a "boy" dress.
