Because you need software that will allow you to mount the CD as a writable drive - this is NOT done by default.

Typically, you use a CD with a CD burner and CD burning software, like NERO, to manually write files to the CD for backup purposes.

If you want to treat it like a hard drive - which you can dynamically write files to, you'll need to find software to do this. It exists - try searching on "mount CDROM" and see what you can find. I have used this in the past on a Windows machine and it works great - I think it was even free.

If the rigidity says that's a CD rigidity, and it was a DVD rigidity, somebody swapped drives with you. A Pioneer DVD-RW rigidity is a DVD rigidity, no longer a CD-in effortless terms rigidity. (DVD drives can study and write CDs.)
