What does yokohama means?

I know is a port and city of Japan, but, what does it mean?

    Side harbour(port).

    Harbour(Port) by the side.

    Actually Yokohma was small village on sand bars 150 yrs ago. Most part of modern central Yokohama, such as Yokohama station and Kannai etc, was in Tokyo gulf then.
