Does J.P. Montoya have more fans now that Jeff Gordon was driving aggressively while a lap down?

Im not a Gordon fan and can't stand him. But due to some problems Gordon went a lap down but the entire race up to that point Gordon ran up in the top 5. I don't think JPM understood how important it was for Gordon to get on the lead lap or lucky dog. He could have just let Gordon go and followed him and both wouldnt have slowed down or vice versa so you can place some blame on Gordon. But they fought back and forth and I dont think it costed JPM the race or anything when it came down to it he was a Top 5 car and finished 5th.

As far as fans go JPM probably didn't gain fans by complaining about it. Now if he took Gordon out he would become second most popular driver in Nascar for at least a couple weeks. But he didn't do anything special but complain. So I don't think he got more fans by complaining that Gordon was racing him hard.

I don't know if racing Gordon has all the much to do with people's perception of him but Montoya is gaining new fans (or at least some respect) from the way he is driving. A top 5 at Atlanta was pretty good after everybody was saying he can't do well at an oval yet. He very well may win on an oval this year although it won't be at a short track. I am most interested to see how he handles himself at Bristol this week and then Martinsville.

Sure, but Gordon was just racing him in a way that he's not used to. In F1, there is very limited and short-lived side-by-side racing. When Jeff hung in there lap after lap, he was giving Montoya an education of what NASCAR is all about. Jeff was probably getting a feeling for Montoya's ability to handle a car that's getting loosened up by traffic (another symptom foreign to F1 racing).

I dont think so, if anything he is going to be labeled a whiner just like he was in previous series he raced in. Gordons racing him like that was questionable, maybe he was even trying to hold Montoya up because Montoya could have caught Johnson I dont know. I doubt the guy gets many fans for his comments, when he wins a race, he will start getting more fans from the traditional fan base of Nascar.

I actually think Montoya was more upset that Gordon was taking the air off his spoiler than the aggressive driving. Gordan had a top 5 car all day long, bad luck took him down a lap. Don't get me wrong , I hate the dude(Gordon), but, he's a pretty fair driver. And, if ol' JP thinks that was bad... wait till Bristol creeps up on his sorry butt, he'll hate EVERYONE after Sunday. hahaha

He probably will pick up some more fans.. All those Gordon-Bashers will cheer for him a little more probably. If anyone else would of seen the later interviews of him, They would have seen where he said he "wasn't angry @ Jeff for what he did on the track today, but I was very surprised that he would race me that hard"... Sounds like to me Montoya was surprised his friend Gordon raced him like that.. but he said he understood what Jeff was doing, and wasn't mad at him for it... I think this just shows that JP may race Gordon the same way.. No matter what's going on in the race

In my opinion Montoya is learning and he has to go through in

my opinion he's going to make those mistakes that keeps a

driver from winning. But Jeff Gordon was a lap down, and was holding Montoya back so that Montoya wouldn't win, but Montoya still finished fourth.

Who is impressed with Gordon or Montoya. In my opinion they are both as bad. But Montoya is bad becuase he wrecked his own teammate hoping to win the race and a shot at the cup, but hey Gordon does that to along with Hendrick motorsports. All the bad drivers should join Hendrick motorsports.

JP had no complaint. Gordon was racing to get his lap back. He had a top 5 car 'til the incident in the pits. As it were, Jeff got his lap back, & if they'd had another 10 laps, likely would have passed JP again. Stop whining, John Paul. Welcome to NASCAR.

Juan Pablo has a lot to learn. If he keeps that up he'll be known as a bigger whiner than Jeff Gordon.
