Can you name a child any way you want in your country? Are there rules?
In my country there's a list of banned names (devised to protect the child from psycological trauma) and I think that's great! Anything like that in your country?
Also, only two given names are admissible, and four surnames (I think).
P.S. : I'm from Portugal, and here is the list of non admissible names:
We may change our names too. Most on the list are banned because it isn't the Portuguese spelling (we have Alexandre). It's a form of protecting ourlanguage too, I think. The admissible names are here:
No, we still have lots of names left! For instance, my name is absolutely unique! As for the 4 surnames, it looks weird doesn't it? It's a snobbish thing. Practical people just use 2, snobbish ppl use all 4. You can have one given name and 2 surnames only, that's 3 names. Or you can have 6! Well, it's still better than having kids named Porsche! :-) But I agree that in the list of banned names there are wonderful names which I don't know why they are there.

Unfortunately, there is no such ban in the US. Fools can (AND DO) name their kids whatever they want.

Yes, we can name our children anything we like. It would be nice if some people took into consideration their children's future before naming their children, but most people are kind to their children in this regard.
After looking at the list of your banned names, it seems like there would be few names left to choose from. There must be a lot of people with the same name!

In the US you can name your child anything you want. Never heard of a country having a "banned" name list. That's odd.

We can name our child anything we want but I also see why your country does not allow it. It seems they want to have only names with portugees spelling. Ha.. my name Kendra(it is dervied from Kendal) and my daughters name (Chloe) are banned. But why would a child need four surnames?!?! Thats a little much.

I just looked at that list. All those names are banned??? That's alot of names. What is left? And why exactly are they banned?

You can name your kids what ever you want. . . Also you have the ability to change your name if you would like. It might be one of the good things about this country.

Well here in Canada we can give the kid any name we like...My friend named her kid Jack Daniel (JD for short) I think she likes Jack Daniels a LIL to much. ANYWAYS...There are some rules here in Canada tho. Like if your East Indian you got to take your child the the temple and name him/her there. As for any other Black/whites/Chinese etc...we all look in the baby name book. My child has one long name...Haley-Lynn Leanne Carter!

I live in the US and there is nothing like an "banned name list" we can name our kids whtever we want to.

We are free here in the USA to name our children anything. I just saw a woman on Oprah who I believe was from Norway and she stated that they had to pick Norweigin (sp.?) names and they had to be approved.

No, there are no rules where I come from. I don't think there should be either.
Parents just need to be sensible and take into account how the names(s) they give their children will affect them in years to come.
