I recently created a Yahoo Group ID. Is there a web page or PDF doc that explains the basics of Yahoo Groups?

I want to set up an outgoing email address book / list (via Yahoo Groups) to send out our church prayer chain requests and / or the monthly newsletter. Where do I find a document (PDF) or web page that explains how to do Yahoo Groups? (Yahoo Groups for "dummies"). How do I send an email to the 'group' so that it gets sent (distributed) to all of the people in the address book? How do I enter email addresses into the address book? Thank you.

  • I believe you what you created is a Yahoo ID.

    Create a Yahoo Group at:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/

    and find more info there,

it is a little cryptic, like most computer info.

but with some trial and error, it isn't too hard.

Your Yahoo Group's website will be:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/XXX/

[XXX = your Yahoo Group name]

You'll find you can only Invite up 50 email addresses

or Add 10 email addresses per day.

If you have a lot of addresses to subscribe,

it would take a long time.

    I suggest:

    1) set up your Yahoo Group with Group settings:

    -Membership does not require approval

(to make it easy to join your group, see suggestion 5)

    -New Members' Messages require approval

    OR

    Only Moderators can post messages

    (to prevent SPAMMING, you appoint Moderators, if any;

and you and selected Moderators either post messages

    or approve new members' messages

(after appropriate posts you can unModerate each new member)

-Email attachments are not permitted (because they can contain viruses)

Some people may not wish to receive messages with attachments,

because even known members may unknowingly send an infected attachment.

    -Spam Filtering set to OFF

I wouldn't count on this feature to block all SPAM

and not block any safe messages.

    2) I found it helpful to create some alternate email addresses for myself

    (free from Yahoo.com, Hotmail.com, mail.com, techemail.com, etc

with different Yahoo IDs and not associated with each other)

and to experiment with the Group before going Public with it.

(Try out everything with just you and your Dummy Email Addresses.)

    3) Explore the Management section

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/XXX/manage

Then explore the other sections (and their subsections):

Messages, Pending, Spam?, Post, Files, Photos, Links,

Database, Polls, Members, Calendar, Invite, etc

Also: My Groups, Edit Membership, My Account, etc

    4) Send messages to Group members to:

    XXX@yahoogroups.com

    5) have people join by sending an email to:

    XXX-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

OR visit your Yahoo Group website

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/XXX/

(The default setting will be for them to receive Individual Emails,

but be sure some will select Daily Digest, Special Notices, or Web Only.)

You could print up this part and/or send it out through your current method.

    Good Luck with your Group

Your group name is always yourgroupname@yahoogroups.com . If you are not paying for your Y! Mail, then you cannot change your outgoing address.

first you have to make a group here

    http://groups.yahoo.com/

    and get help here

    http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/groups/

you may find it a lot simpler to just make a contact list in your email account, if it suits your needs or in the interim
