How can I get rid of fish odor in my freezer/refrigerator?
I had frozen fish in my RV freezer - refrigerator/freezer stopped working and it was a couple of days before I realized it was not working. The fish defrosted - I've cleaned with baking soda and put charcoal in the freezer but cannot get rid of the odor.

Better idea - You mentioned charcoal. There are different types and some just work better. I have the perfect product that I've used for years and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great. It works so much better than baking soda and all those sprays and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. The carbon literally absorbs and eliminates the odors and works for a long time. Just place a couple in fridge and freezer. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it. Someone else even said available in England. Definitely worth trying

Baking soda or charcoal is a great way to control odors in refrigerators/freezers that are working... won't do much for your problem. What you need to do is neutralize the odor, or more likely replace the odor with a better one. For that, I'd wipe the inside of the refridgerator with pure vanilla extract. Might have to do this a couple of times, but has worked with several of the "science experiments" I've found in mine over the years.

Defrost the thing and empty it of everything. Once it's totally empty put Real Vanilla extract on a sponge and wipe every surface of the fridge/freezer, keep using more and more vanilla to cover everything. Next put in a bowl of coffee grounds and close the door. Within 24 hours it should be odor free. I left shrimp in a cooler and this worked!

I was just going to suggest baking soda but I see that you already tried that.
What about vanilla in a small dish. It might absorb the odor--I hope. You may
have to get an antibacterial spray or even use a spray of bleach. I hope you get
rid of the problem. What a nuisance it is.

1.Take everything out of the refrigerator and clean it as you normally would, then clean it again with baking soda.
2. Keep a box of baking soda in the refrigerator after you fill it up with stored food. It is effective at keeping bad odors at bay.

This worked for me.
We forgot a half opened package of weiners in our camper fridge for 2 months... totally gross smelling.
We were told to make a triple strong batch of coffee, and wash down the fridge with it while it was hot. Then we were to place a plastic bowl in the fridge filled with dry coffee grounds. In a few days we noticed the smell was gone, and hasnt come back.
This worked for rotten hot dogs.

slice an onion in half. As the onion dries it will obsorb the odour then wipe out with warm water a a litle vanilla essence
This will also work if you need the remove paint fumes or other smells around the house

For the Freezer part, you can use a small cotton ball soaked in vanilla and wipe it all down. For the refridgerator you should wipe it down with a cloth dipped in white vinegar.
