When the questions asked on YA remain in a tie.....?

how long before it is resolved? And who makes the decision? I see some questions several months old that are still not resolved.....just wondering.....

Update:

and why doesn't the person who asked it in the first place choose? Whenever I have asked a question, I get a message telling me that I need to make a decision.....

It remains a tie until someone votes to break the tie. The program searches every 12 hrs to see if any ties were broken.

Anyone can vote for the tiebreaker. Unfortunately, though, not enough people vote, so there are many q's that remain in tiebreaker limbo for a long time. Some have been there for a year. We need more people to vote.

Also, while you correctly noted that you get an email suggesting that you pick a best answer, many people don't do that. They just come to the site once and never come back to resolve their question. It is unfortunate, esp after others have put in effort to answer their question.

Questions remain in a 'Tie" as long as it takes to break the tie (I have had answers in a tie for months).

As for why the original asker does not choose, you don't always have that power. You can choose a Best Answer while the question is still 'Open' (which is what the email from Yahoo is trying to get you to do).

Once the question goes into 'Voting', you cannot simply choose a Best Answer, you can only cast a single vote (like enveryone else). Depending on how many votes have been cast, your single vote may not make much of a difference

  • Good question,I'm wondering with ya.

I think the person who ask it needs to be the one to break the tie and they don't for some reason.
