Does an American need a visa to visit Australia?

No....our two countries, Australia & America have an agreement with each other. I came over here on what is called "a visa waiver". This means you can also go to Australia without one and stay for three months. You will however, require a work visa if you intend to look for a job whilst over there.

You will need to apply for the work visa here in the States and it can be done online. I can't remember the government site but perhaps if you google it, you may find it that way.

Im american and I needed a Visa to get into Australia. The travel agent I bought my ticket thur went ahead and did it when I ordered the tickets and that was that. Painless!!! You also need it if you are going to New Zealand too I believe. Have a wonderful trip!!!

Yes. All travelers to Australia, except New Zealanders need visas. You can get one through your travel agent or a consulate.

You ABSOLUTELY need a visa. Your travel agent or airlines can help you get one. Don't wait 'til the last minute, it'll be at the least rather embarassing when you show up to the airport without one. I know, I've done it. Fortunately everything worked out ok. But it was rather embarassing not having all the necessary paperwork. It costs a few bucks but not too much. Have fun down under!

With the new laws, Americans need a passport to visit anywhere outside the country - including Mexico and Canada.

You do need a visa - but if you just want a tourist visa you can actually get it on line.

Yes, apply at a consulate I think. They have a few, in our big cities.
