Astringents with acetone are your best bet, according to Dr. Neldner. "Acetone is a great fat and grease solvent, and most astringents have a bit of acetone in them. If you use it regularly, you can surely remove oil from the skin."

Although most astringents contain alcohol, look for a brand that also contains acetones, such as Seba-Nil, says Dr .Neldner. Ordinary rubbing alcohol, however, can be used as an effective, inexpensive astringent. Those looking for something milder can try witch hazel, which contains some alcohol and also works well.

Nonalcohol astringents contain mostly water and are not as effective as those with alcohol and acetone, but they may be of help for those with sensitive skin. Worth noting: Dermatologists say that rather than washing the face several times a day, which can leave it too dry and irritated, you're better off to carry astringent pads with you and use them to cleanse the face.

I have suffered from oily skin for years, tried everything, and nothing seemed to work. A dermatologist prescribed a hormone called Spironolacto approx 2 months ago specifically for this problem, and I cannot believe what a difference it has made in my skin. My face used to be shiny within a couple hours of applying makeup--now I can go practically the whole day without having to touch up with powder. I also use Bare Minerals foundation. I've even started using a light moisturizer in the mornings under my makeup---I have NEVER been able to do that before! It's a very inexpensive medication if you have insurance. See if you might be a good candidate for it---it is the ONLY thing that has worked for me. Good luck!!

I am now 47 and since childhood I have always cleaned my face with Regular Listerine and cotton balls, especially over and around the nose and forehead area. You would not believe the dirt that comes off. With it being antiseptic you have an additional benefit. I have always had a clear but light complexion, my teachers even commented on this throughout high school. Always to keep your fingers off your face. Always use cotton balls, q-tips, something sanitary. The Listerine should start drying alot of it over night. My daughter is 18 and wanted me to get Pro-active. She had a recent breakout and ask me what to do. I again told her to get use the Listerine before I ordered it. To her surprise, Mom was right. Her face has stayed clear for the past three months. Her boyfriend has started using it also. At first it will tingle, but not a bad tingle, so don't get scare. Your face will feel clean and breathable.

Your face can't stop from being oily just like that.It might never stop being oily. It's a deep disorder of the skin.I have oily skin since forever. You just have to take care of it every day and night with specified products. Also do this test.Look at your skin at a time that you are relaxed and you are not going under any stress. You'll see that your skin will be less oily and it will react better to the products you use.

Aright. This is my awesome thing. So, don't use toners. They just ruin your skin. Don't use any products that will have oils in 'em that wipe away the other oils. Don't replace your natural oils with product's ones. Remeber to wash your face every night. Try proactiv. The cleanser rocks. And the Clean and CLear Morning Burst cleanser with controlled shine is good too. But Believe me, when you're 50, according to my mother, you'll wish you had oily skin anyway.

Oily face is due to many considerations other then the type of wash you use.

Limit your food intake. Oily stuffs makes your secrete more oil.

Do apply moisturisor after washes. If your face is dry, it will secrete oil to moisturisize which can cause quite an oily face depending on how dry it is.

I use proactive too but it wasnt controlling my oil problem. I actually went to CVS and bought Clean and Clear PersaGel. Its 10% benzole (sp) peroxide and it actually has helped with my T-zone oil problem and cleared up my acne faster then ProActive ever did. I still wash my face with proactive but the PersaGel is applied after I wash. Good luck!!!

There are special face washes out there now that keep your skin nonoily all day but honestly they dont work as well as they say. I recomend getting new makeup that wont get oily throughout the day and maybe see your dermatologist and see what they say. Good Luck!

    besides benzol peroxide

    also use a sulfur mask

put it on before shower every morning and leave it on for 15 mins while brushing teeth and getting ready for the day

    salicylic also helps

and wash your face as often as it gets oily

They sell these little sheets...I think it might be Neutrogena that I use, but you can find them in the skin cleaning section. They are amazing!! You just wipe your face with them and it sucks the oil right off! The best part is...it doesn't take your makeup off either!!
