US Law - can a UK resident make a Will enforceable in the US?

I am a UK citizen and resident. I have an account with an online broker based in the US. I have a Will in the UK, but that will obviously not be valid under US law.

Is there an easy way to make a US Will setting out what I want done with the assets in the brokerage account in the event of my death? I would like to avoid flying to the US to have the Will witnessed if I can!

Just because a will is executed in the UK would not automatically make it invalid under U.S. law. In most states, so long as the will follows the states' requirements (usually signed, witnessed by 2 disinterested witnesses and/or notarized) the state will recognize it as valid.

Talk to your UK lawyer; he can discuss the international implications of your will with you. It won't be hard, and I can't imagine that you'll have to fly to the US.

Contact a attorney in your area. Then ask what to do. You will probably need to have a U.K. attorney contact and work with a U.S. attorney to make sure all the legalities are ironed out.
