My baby can not eat anything with milk...?

He's 10 month old and Im making home-made foods for him. I was wondering if there is a lactose-free butter that anybody can recommend. I would like to mash potatoes, Sweet potatoes and other legumes with a little butter to add taste...

Please, any moms out there who have the same problem, please advise.

Thanks in advance!

Acckk! Please don't give a baby margerine! It is hydrogenated oil and very bad for all people! (i am vegan and don't eat butter either.) Earthbalance is the ONLY non-hydrogenated butter substitute. Its tasty, but unecessary for infants.

If you need to up his fat content then, by all means, add some avocado, or olive oil or coconut oil.

A baby doesn't really need flavor enhancement though. Their tastebuds are far more sensitive than an adults and just the flavor of the food should be enough for now.

I am lactose Intolerant as well as all 3 of my girls, 2, 3, 6. I use strictly Country Crock. I have experimented with several different butters and found that margarine's don't have lactose in them. The spray butters and I can't believe it's not butter are free as well. Even if you come across a butter like at a restaurant, use a small amount it shouldn't harm him. This is my experience.

Generally lactose-intolerant people eat margerine which I would strongly recommend. True lactose intolerance in children under 3 is EXTREMELY rare, generally they are allergic to milk protein which is found in lactose free products as well.

I would also avoid soy as it is highly allergenic and 20-30% of the people that have dairy allergies also have soy allergies. Buy a nice olive oil margerine, or use straight olive oil for mashing veggies it tastes great and is healthier than processed margerine.

If you are looking for dairy free products looked for anything labelled "parve". These are guaranteed meat and dairy free.

sorry i don't know about any lactose free butters, but you could try goats cheese, or mashing other vege's in with the potato like carrots etc to give it a different taste, my 18month's favorite is mashed sweet potato with rice milk and carrots..
