The Japanese does not now, and never did have an A-Bomb to test. However the US dropped 2 A-Bombs on Japaneses cities to end WWII.

Japan had done little if any research on the making of an A-Bomb but Germany had been doing some. Germany was in the process of sending radio-active material to Japan at the time of the German surrender but the ship(s) were captured by the USA.

At best, all Japan could have done is make a "dirty bomb". That is a bomb made from high explosives such as TNT and put radio-active material in it. This would have spread fallout over the region but without the destructive force of an A-Bomb
