A question about motorcycles and their keys??
I have a motorcycle, 1973 cb350. And my smart friend lost the key!
Does anyone know if you replace the ignition (so you can use a new key) if that key will still open the gas tank and seat lock?
Or is there an easier way to go about doing this?
Thanks!

I've got a bike and the first thing the dealership told me to do was to get copies of the key made so I didn't have to rekey the whole thing. You need a locksmith to rekey your bike, which will require a different key for the ignition, gas tank, trunk, helmet locks, etc. It's going to be cheaper than buying/installing a new ignition I believe.

Maybe not what you are looking for, but if you don't want to pour money into an old bike, you could just break the seat, gas, and ignition locks. My friend had his ignition busted after someone tried to thief his '07 R1. He didn't want to spend $500 for a new ignition so he hooked up an electrical thing and turns the switch with a screwdriver... doesn't need a key anymore. The whole think appears to be disturbingly easy to do.

Look on the ignition switch ...There should be a number right where the key goes in If there is a number there you can take that and your title to the local honda dealer and they can get you a key. If there is no number you should be able to pick up an ignition on ebay pretty cheap.

you can hot wire the cables and start the bike. however this is not a solution cause the tank has the same key. They can make you another key take out the ignition lock and give it to a lockerman,,,

I took my ignition switch off and took it to a locksmith and had a key made, so i could keep it same as the original. My bike was a 1981 honda silver wing.

The number for the key is on the back of the key switch. But it is also on the back of the helmet holder. Take the number and your title to a honda dealer and they can get you a key.

If have a VIN number for the bike which i dont know if they had them for those bikes you could take the VIN to a Honda dealer and they can order 1 for you thats the easiest. But if not call a lock smith.
