What does a sticker that reads, "specially banded for air play" on a record album mean?

I realize it is a promo copy that a radio station used, but not sure what the "banded" part means

usually theres stuff on those kinds of records for the people who run the station to use

ive got a copy of a NIN record that has its tracks segmented out, one of them is followed by applause and theyre all edited

some of the more famous lyrics and riffs are set apart (for radio stations to play in the background possibly), ect.

im not 100% sure thats what it means though, ive just noticed that my record had those on it

I think there is extra silence between songs, or they inserted silent grooves in between songs that would otherwise have blended one into the next, so it would be easy for DJs to identify the beginning and end of tracks.
