Neither, they remain within their own habitat, although during harsh winters they travel to find food. That's why you'll find them in some towns and cities. My house is surrounded by whitetails I think they're a beautiful animal. I used to hunt but not anymore they'll yard up right in my yard. Just by their actions and movement they let me know when severe weather is approaching(big snowstorms). As I write this I'm watching about 35 of them out my window. My daughter names all of them and her favorite one "fuzzy face" is actually inches from the window looking at me.

I also saw white deer with brown spots in my yard in Howard County Maryland years ago. I thought they were goats at first. I saw them quite a lot for 5 -10 years then I moved away. The white deer were fatter and clumsier than the regular deer. That is the only difference I could see. I have a picture of them standing on their hind legs eating apples from the tree in the orchard. Actually, that was such a nice place, I wish I never moved away.!

There is a sub-race of white tailed deer which in white in colour (not albino - which is complete lack of pigmentation), but rather hypomelanistic - sort of the opposite of the phenomenon that creates black panthers. How common white white-tails are depends on where you are, and what the frequency amongst your local populations are. The white white-tails are most common in the eastern USA, with the largest population actually occurring on the Seneca Army Base in New York. I'm not that familiar with the geography of the eastern US, but you're certainly closer to that region than say, I am.

They do neither per say. They may move short distances within their range but not migrate long distances.

    No deer type hibernates.

I didnt think they really did either. Being a hunter in Pa, we always hunt in the early winter. We are constantly running into them on the roads too hehe....

neither they lay up in groups in the hard part of winter. In a real hard winter they have alot of winter kill due to lack of feed. The strong survive

Neither. They tough it out in the winter and many of the weaker ones die.
