What I do for a living pays bills, and allows me to save toward retirement. A career? No. I don't hate what I do, but it is not something I see myself doing for another 5 years. As a matter of fact the plan is not to do this another year.

I'm an office manager for a medical practice. The position is extremely demanding, and with any medical office, maintaning confidentiality and standards adds to it. My co-workers are nice. This is the saving grace. I work about 50 hours a week, with a 1.5 hour commute each way.

It makes it difficult to have a social life. I'm just too tired. At the end of the day I do not want to talk or listen to people. I crave quiet.

I would say that whether your job is "just a job" or a "career" is a matter of attitude. Basically your attitude to be specific. I teach dance. This used to be a hobby but I was pretty good at it and started being in demand and next thing I knew I was making super good money at it. Is it a career? Well, for me I say so. But I have had days were it was just a job and not that big of a priority in my life.

Career, been in this (computers)profession for 20 years now. I try to acquire a new expertise every 5-7 years to keep it fresh. Started out in Mainframes, went to multi-national application support (yearly trips to Rome, Italy), to servers, to Desktop/Application support and development. Starting a new switch from Windows based to Linux based applications and OS. So I'm starting my next 5-7 year run. It has never become old for me. Whatever you do, you can always find something that will keep your interest for 5-7 years and then switch to a different area of expertise within the same field if you like the overall field. If I count my Navy time, I've been at this for close to 30 years and I wouldn't change a thing.

My weekend receptionist job is a job. My new weekday job as an administrative assistant will hopefully lead me into a nice career as an office administrator in the future.

I am a call center rep and i consider it to be both, your job is what you make out of it whether it be a career or just a way to make a living.

I used to confuse the two. That my job was my career.

Now I feel my job is part of my career .. but only one part of a bigger picture.

I now think my career is in computers and my job is out at (fill in blank)
