I had thought so, but Invasor proved it today...?

the best in training with a game win for the biggest purse in racing...as discreet cat waltzes in a dissapointing 6th, didnt look like he was a stayer and will compete next at a flat mile...your thoughts?

Update:

my bad, discreet cat came in 7th

Update 2:

looks like the sheiks made a nice private purchase with this horse eh? paid a lot but got a lot...

Update 3:

you meant the stakes at belmont right? he never raced here as a 3 year old...

Update 4:

that race card is run at night, thats why it looks kinda different...Nad El is like the most state of the art racing facility in the world, and by the time they finish the new one there it will be twice as big and the world cup race run there will have a purse of 10 Million (2010) freakin amazing...

Invasor is a monster (Premium Tap was fully extended) and Jara gave him a perfect ride in that long stretch. He'll certainly be facing short fields in the U.S. this spring and summer, so it'll be interesting to see how his schedule is going to play out leading to the BC Classic (stays overseas or ships back for racing).

You can't discount the time missed in training - and being scratched out of the final prep - for Discreet Cat, as he looked like a very, very average stakes racer on Saturday. He will be given every opportunity to prove that he can handle the distance leading up to the BC Classic, though the health problems that he came out of the race with could make for a lost season.

I don't know what happened with Discreet Cat. He seemed to be totally sluggish. Possibly Dettori didn't want to have him on the lead, but did he want him to be last early?

I don't think it had anything to do with him not being a stayer, last year he went to the front in the Duty Free at 9 furlongs and opened up in the stretch.

I think Invasor would've beaten him anyway but DC showed absolutely nothing yesterday so it's hard to believe there isn't something wrong.

There is absolutely no way that horse should get beat by the caliber of horse that finished third, "distance limitation" or not.

Heck of a classic runner. Yeah, Discreet Cat didn't get the trip he wanted, because he started pretty slow and couldn't get to the front like he did in the U.S. In addition, he's more of a miler than a classic runner, something Invasor has proven with his wins in the 2006 Belmont Stakes, BC Classic, and now the Dubai World Cup. Clearly, he's the best of the best in the dirt classic divisions today, and it'll be fun to see him return in the summer in preparation for his title defense in New Jersey this fall.

Excellent ride by young Fernando Jara too to get a big paycheck for a 19 year old. That's why he's based in New York.

Heez da best! I didn't know much about him before the Breeders, but he's been my pick since then. I've only seen those 3 races, but he really is excellent in them all. He has avenged Discreet Cat... buried him more like... did you see Fernando keep looking around as he ran next to Premium Tap... it was like he didn't want to make his move until he saw Discreet Cat coming, but ultimately decided that he had to... and he pulled into a very convincing win... Premium Tap ran really well too, but he was running all out down the stretch and Invasor was still waiting... Invasor is clearly the stronger horse. He's beat all the greats this year. I was skeptical before the Breeders because I had never seen him before... but he really is the best.

Eeeeen Va Sooooor.....heez de best! as Kenny Mayne would say :)

He certainly proved how good he is today (as in his last race and the one before that). I can't wait to see him back at Belmont!
