Indirect immunofluorescence?

I performed indirect immunfluorescence of cells which had gone under apoptosis. The dyes/stains were DAPI and FITC. What should I be looking for when looking at the slides that indicates apoptosis?

DAPI will stain and allow you to visualize your DNA.

During apoptosis, chromatin undegoes irreversible condensation in which you will see compact patches against the nuclear envelope. The nuclear envelope and DNA will then fragment into little chunks. THese processes are called pyknosis and karyorrhexis, respectively.

Therefore, normal cells would show a full and smooth opaque nucleus and possibly a few cells in mitosis, whereas cells undergoing apoptosis would show condensed and fragmented chromatin.
