Is it okay for a 7mo old to eat finger foods instead of baby foods.?

My daughter used to eat her baby food real well but now days it is hit or miss. I can always get her to eat a bannana, pear, sweet potato, or green beans. I think she just prefers the finger food. Most of the time i can still get her to eat the baby cereal. Of course she eats her bottles in between. Has anyone else had this problem. Any suggestions??

Update:

She already has 4 teeth. (2on top and 2 on bottom). In addition I'm cpr certified so if she does choke i'll be right there. Plus the pediatician said to start finger foods sometime before 9mo (when she sees her again and when her teeth come in)

GOOD for you! I think it's great that you've started her on finger foods...my little girl is also 7 months old and eats almost exclusively table food and formula. It helps them learn important skills like the pincher grasp (fine motor skills) by picking up foods like cheerios and small pieces of banana and such. My little girl is very independent, she's been crawling since 5 1/2 months, pulling up on things for several weeks, and attempting to walk...so feeding herself is just another way that she can be independent so of course she prefers it. I've talked to our doctor about it and she said as long as she can chew it there's no problem with it (she has 7 teeth so that's not an issue). I just have to make sure to get at least 24 oz of formula in her a day on top of the food. So just make sure she's getting a balanced diet and she'll be just fine!

Feeding fingers foods is a PERSONALY preferance. I have read in several books different ages, but what it all comes down to is what your comfortable with. to start off, give food that is very soft and easy to much, peas, steamed carrorts, or my sons favorite, sweet potatos (if you buy the caned variety they are already mushy enough) make sure whatever you give your little one is no bigger then the size of a small pea. Also Gerber (and walmsrt has their brand) of there Gerber graduates 'puff' type things, my kids have loved thoes, they disolve easily and are great for them to pick up.

My daughter was so independent that she wanted to feed herself very early on. Just make sure the food is very soft. Also, I think it is Gerber that makes veggie and fruit puffs. They look like hard cereal, but they dissolve REALLY fast, so your baby won't choke. If she wants finger food, I say let her have them, just make sure it is all really easy to mush in her mouth, and very small pieces. And NO hotdogs. These are choking hazards, and parents want to give them to babies all the time. You can also buy books on healthy foods to make for babies and toddlers, and they often go by age. This could give you some ideas.

7 mths is really young. But if you want to give her finger food... make sure it's not oily, hard and big. My baby refuses finger food or any type of food until she was past 9 mths old. But mash up sweet potato. That shld help her with her bowel movement. I suggest, give her baby finger food. These food contains less salt compared to adults finger food and easier on her stomach

Well I didn't feed my kids solid until they were a year old. Hvae you tried the Gerber's Graduates? Maybe she'll eat those. I'm not real sure. I suggest baby food for her, and I wouldn't feed her green beans. They can get lodged in her throat if you don't cut them up in tiny pieces. But sweet potatoes are fine. Bananas are good if you mash them up or cut them tiny, also. I'm not sure about pears, though.

I think if you feel comfortable with it, then it would be ok. The most common chocking hazards are hot dogs, popcorn, and hard candy, so just watch out for those things. I have 2 kids of my own and I'm not real uptight about these things, I use my own judgment. I think you're capable of doing the same. She sounds healthy.

save attempting, exceptionally with the vegetables, toddlers ought to attempt/see issues many circumstances till now they actually like them. My toddlers do no longer likely look after the beef from the toddler jars the two. They a lot extra suitable choose a chew of meat off my plate that I easily have chewed first and then provide it to them.

7 months is a little early.

However, if you make sure the pieces are tiny tiny and somewhat mushy and you watch her like a hawk... then I guess it's okay.

as long as what you give her is in small pieces, soft, and she mashes it well then it should be okay.
