What is the name of the purple-flower plant, tree or bush?

In the South, during my time to shopping to the city, I travelled around the country (from town to town), and noticed where many purple "plants" stand.

They are not lavenders, but it is smelled the lavenders or else.

Could it have been Lilacs??? Pretty purple but grow on trees. Could also be Hyacinth which is a plant that grows from a bulb in the ground

If the leaves are purple, it's probably a purple leaf plum, if it's big purple flowers it's probably a royal empress, also called a Princess Paulownia. Or it could be a crabapple or a purple smoke tree.
