c cleaner can be downloaded, which deletes all temp files and un-used files from deleted programs. It is a free download.

A registry cleaner will also help out. Try Abexo registry cleaner, a free download from cnet

Add/Remove programs in the control panel.

It will help you uninstall any programs you do not need and free up some space.

You can also delete some of the things that you have stored in the My Documents, My Pictures, My Music and probably other similar folders that you no longer need.

Do a disk defrag (under accessories) and cleanup and you've got yourself some extra space.

Oh, and make sure you empty the recycling bin. That can fill up quickly and eat up valuable 'hidden' space.

Tehcnically, you can't increase the amount of space on a drive.

What you CAN do to obtain more "free" space is:

    1. remove files and programs you no longer need from the drive and/or put some of your data on external media such as CD's

    2. defragment the drive.

    3. compress the drive contents.

    Negatives to:

    1. slower access to any files on external media.

    2. NO negatives.

    3. somewhat slower access to files as they must be decompressed. (Faster than external media!)

External or Internal drive. You can uninstall some of the nonessential programs and reinstall to the new drive. Windows will make a Program Files for the new drive for you.

You could go to [My computer -> right click your drive -> Compress this drive]. Won't need any software at all.
