If you don't want to use your computer in class, you can find and print pictures and make a collage on posterboards. It's not too creative, but simple. You can find these images everywhere--the half-naked women in car or motorcycle ads, the beauty queen, the gay man or woman, the German Nazi, the "Indian," and now, the "terrorist".

There is a good poster at answers.com, search "ethnic stereotype"

You can present dressed as a stereotype from your sex--a schoolmarm, whatever.

It's a very broad topic. If you don't narrow it down you can bombard your audience with the abundant stereotypes propagated through the media and pop culture. I always like to go for shock value. Make sure that you can tie in both ideas--stereotypes and discrimination. Don't forget, every image that you pull of the Web needs to be properly cited in a bibliography. Good luck.

    1. you need a visual aid and you would like your classmates involved for the visual aid.

    2. the topic is stereotyping and discrimination

How about doing a simple play describing stereotyping and discrimination? You don't need complicated long dialogs, just some expressions to picture the situation. And to make it more dynamic, it is better to get your friends involved in the play!

    Hello,

I think I can help you with putting the ppt together. If you can send me whatever ppt (or info) you have put together, I can set up the presentation for you.

Do remember that a ppt is just a guideline to help you say what you have to. You don't need to put too much text into. The danger of putting in too much text is that you might just end up reading from the slide (which means 1. your back will face the audience and 2. the audience can get really bored).

But don't worry, do send me the ppt to mithun7820@yahoo.co.in and lets see what can be done.

Now, if you just don't want to use PPT at all, you could put together what is called a SAVI (pronounced as "savvy") compliant presentation. SAVI stands for Scholastic Auditory Visual Intuitive. It could be anything from role plays, to activities, to games or just to discussions... through which you can get your point across to the audience. Again, do send me the material and I may be able to help you with it.

    Cheers

    Mithun

Try getting five classmates to participate:

Prior to your presentation, have the five list three things about themselves on a 3x5 card (with one item completely false, but aimed at misleading the class). Either they or you can read aloud each of the the three items and have the rest of the class try to guess which one is false. It's an easy exercise that can quickly sum up our biases and quickly show how we stereotype.

Well, How are you with a camera ?

Can you take a few pictures of individuals and use the class reactions to push your points home ?

Also, Computers are not the only way to show a graph. Break out the poster board and try you hand at drawing.

Use what's around you. Ask your classmates to participate. Grab a few individuals from different ethnic group/background and use them as your visual aid, kinda like show and tell. Then ask the class what's the first thing that comes to their mind when they see those individuals. I bet you you'll get the answers you want and you'll get your point across.

Consider using a Barbie doll as a stereo type of the average American woman. You can also cut out and laminate pictures from magazines that represent a "stereo type" i.e. the preppie, the hip hop artist etc...
