The drivers for my sound card don't work. Where can I find alternatives?
I have a VIA Audio HD-Compliant Sound Card in my Advent 7109A laptop, which runs Windows Vista Home Premium. Windows installed my sound card for me with it's own, presumably 'generic' drivers, but it didn't work. I then uninstalled it in Device Manager and installed the drivers that Advent gave me on a CD - this didn't work either and the installation program says that it "could not find a HD audio device". I then Googled the sound card and I found the manufacturer [Via]'s website and I downloaded the drivers from there. They didn't install either - the installation program also said it "could not find a HD audio device".
Has anyone got any ideas? I'm stuck!
Here's the setup log [it looks the same after both driver installations albeit with a different date/time!]

Thanks for the advice so far - kool, I AM a repair technician but I could not think of anything that could help me figure this out, so I tried my luck on Y! Answers, hoping someone may be able to help me and that I can learn something

This particular model isn't compatible with Vista yet. If sound is important, I recommend putting XP back on until the first service pack is released for Vista.

Turning on the HD device in your Bios may help, especially if the card is new and your computer didn't have one before. You could also have a DOA HD card. In that case you'd have to return the card and get another.

That's really weird.
Perhaps the audio device that's built into your motherboard isn't activated in your BIOS settings.
Reboot the computer and before Windows starts to boot up, press F2, ESC, Delete, or whatever key your computer uses to get into the BIOS settings screen.
Now see if there are any settings pertaining to your built-in audio device.

(homestead windows xp) commonly those info could be got here across by ability of going into your gadget supervisor - the easy direction might contain dealing with your administration panel, then picking gadget and the Hardware tab after that window. There might desire to be a gadget supervisor button interior. After the gadget supervisor is open, a catalogue of all your inner hardware might desire to be shown. Open the subsequent Sound and Audio Controllers and it truly is going to exhibit all your instruments. then you truly can seek those properties, or perhaps motor vehicle-replace those drivers from there, and get the info you prefer.

hmm this sound pretty werid if the company that made the sound card had the right drivers and u downloaded them and they didnt work hmm try going to the company web site that made your computer they should have drivers there or download them off the Microsoft web site and if none of those work i would advise you bring your computer in to a technician or repair shop
