In response to Johnny (Judas) Damon?
How long should we, the fans, be expected to cheer for laundry? Players jump teams without thinking of their fans and the teams. Should we, as fans, cheer for the uniform NOT the player. I am disgusted with athletes who leave their fans for $$$
Ortiz was RELEASED by the Twins because the manager in Minnesota didn't like the fact that Ortiz would not become a "singles" hitter, and tried for the Long ball. STUPID decision. He also had a lot of injuries from playing on artificial turf the worst field in baseball.
Does your family NEED say $16 million a year or can they get by on $15.5 Million.

It's a touchy and very sensitive situation. I can understand from a fans point of view how you feel with Mr. Damon jumping to the enemy camp. I never thought in a million years I would see that long haired bushy bearded caveman willing to do it the Yankee way for a few extra dollars. He was the self proclaimed "idiot" who intrumentally helped to deliver the Boston Red Sox to the promised land. His reason for coming to NY couldn't have been to win a world series, for he already won one. I embrace him with open arms, he fits in well and helps to loosen a "stuffy" locker room atmosphere. However, I understand and empithize with you for feeling the way you do. It appears that nobody is committed these days, one reason why I love Jeter, Mariano, and Posada so much.... they will be in the pinstripes until they retire. I wonder if damon used his signing with the yankees as retaliation against John Henry and Theo for not making an offer, I think he hurt my this and signed with the Yankees on the rebound

Shouldn't the athlete do what is best for him? If Damon wanted to play for the Yankees and that gave him an extra 500k in salary and who knows how much more in endorsements by playing in NY shouldn't he? Most athletes , professional guys never get in the position to get paid like he did. You going to watch the final 4 tonight ? What about those guys , they get a 30k a year scholarship while the school makes millions. I would want the 16 over the 15.5 trust me so does the owner. The Red Sox out bid everybody for that Japanese pitcher. They wanted him more , The Yankees wanted Damon more. It is sports , it is Johnny Damon , I understand your sadness , when you go to Fenway Boo him , but don't blame him.

Personally, I think the fans should be allowed to select the team colors and outfits. If a team collects enough greedy players, we could show our dislike by changing their colors or team outfits to match those qualities we now feel they truly display. Maybe after some of them play in garbage bags, they'll understand what respect fans and being part of a real team truly is all about!

If i remember this correctly.. The Red Sox did not give Damon the Respect he had earned from them when he became a freeagent.. they offered him less money and were like Take it or Leave it, and he left it... i don't know how you blame him for not wanting to take less money and less years..... He even said, if the contract just had an extra year and MATCHED the yankees in terms of money he would have taken it in Boston, but they refused to budge, they didnt WANT him back.... So gimme a Freegin Break with that uniform crap! YOu root for the Team, you like players, but with freeagency, you lose those players so you root for the TEAM!

Umm Check your self Boston Fan. You got Ortiz from Minnasota because he wanted too much money. You got Mr Judas Damon from the A's for too much money, Schilling from Arizona, for the money, Manny from the Tribe for the Money, JD Drew for the money, Beckett for the Money, and Matsusaka for the money. So if your so disgusted you shouldn't be a Boston Red Sox fan.
Dont think that Boston isnt little big Evil empire, and your team doesnt do the same thing. You just complain because the Yankee's do it better. Your best players on your team left there team because they wanted to be paid more money and live in Boston! So you should be disgusted for your self. Because your athletes left there franchise for the money!

Judas? A bit bitter still? Get real, its not 1960 anymore. This "cheering for laundry" you talk about has been going on since free agency started. You're just now seeing this? You as a fan should be expected to cheer for who ever you want to. Remember, without free agency or "laundry" your Red Sox would have never broken "The Curse". Side note, there was never a curse, your team just sucked for 87 years... Go Yanks.

you know, you whiny Red Sox fans need to get over the fact that Johnny Damon is gone and be thankful for the fact that he helped bring a World Title to Boston. He obviously was doing the best for HIS family and my guess is that you aren't part of his family so why should he take you into account?

I somewhat agree with your feelings....but in todays game it has gotten to be more of a "business".....the days of one player staying with the same ball club are pretty much gone.....it has to be hard losing Damon to my "hated" Yankees but it will continue to happen as long as there is "free agency"....it is always amazing the years some of these guys have just before going to "free agency".....how much would a Williams....Mantle ...Mays.....or Dimaggio gotten in todays market.....would they have had the numbers that they had...back then you had to really earn the money......for what its worth...did not the Yankees offer Ted some great money back then just to pinch hit for them the year after he retired???....I really think that he did not because of them.....the Yankees and the fans!!.....chill out and enjoy the season as we commence to kick your butts again!!!........GO YANKEES! STINKING RED SOX!!!

the players have to think what is best for their families too. The team owners are the ones that have to pay the players enough to stay, its their fault if they dont. The fans should blame the owners and GM's not the players.

It wasn't just the money it was the years that cheap a@@ Boston did not want to agree to.
Just to think they go out and sign head case J.D. Drew for even more money.
And what makes Damon Boston's property? He played for Kansas City and Oakland way before coming to the Red Sox.
It's a free country. He can go where ever he wants and feels APPRECIATED!
