How do you amend a FAFSA application?
My financial advisor at the college submitted it for me. I realized that I didn't need my parents information until a month later, after the application was submitted.

You should have received a pin number in the mail. Whether you did or not, don't worry. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov
There will be a menu to begin a fafsa, fill out a fafsa, or follow up on a fafsa. Under follow up, there's a link that says to make corrections... click on that. you'll get a screen where you put in name, ss# and stuff like that. then follow the directions and you should be good to go. It's a pretty user-friendly site in my opinion. Good luck with your future!

Be very careful about changing your dependency status on the FAFSA, especially if the person who submitted the information for you is a financial aid advisor. Unless you suddenly realized you were pregnant at the time you filed, federal regulations do not allow you to change from being dependent to independent if something changes after filing. Your status is as of the day you filed. Filing a new application will cause that application to be rejected.
If you added parent information, but qualified on the application initially to be independent, don't worry, even though it is there, parent information is automatically excluded on the FAFSA for students who are legitimately independent.
If you believe your parent information should be excluded, go to the Financial Aid Office and let them help you to correct this. Otherwise you could find that you'll have to provide documentation you don't have and can't get to prove otherwise later on.

You should probably go back to your financial aid advisor, but you can also try going to the fafsa website at www.fafsa.org and go through the process of getting a pin number. Once you have that you will be able to access your fafsa online.
